Background
Gabby Contro is a Principal at Crosslink Capital, an early-stage venture firm headquartered in San Francisco. She first joined Crosslink in 2013, leading early-stage investments across vertical software, marketplaces, enterprise applications, and commerce. Crosslink is a long-standing early-stage firm whose flagship funds back seed and Series A companies; the firm launched its tenth flagship venture fund at $350 million in 2024.
Before venture, Contro built a foundation in finance and accounting. She was a consultant at Ernst & Young in New York, working in the valuation analysis and pricing group, and earlier held a role at Nuveen Investments. She earned a BS from Lehigh University and a Master of Accounting from the University of Michigan before entering the investing world.
In 2016 she left Crosslink to pursue an MBA at Harvard Business School. During that period she worked on the sales operations and strategy team at Pinterest, adding operating experience to her investing background. She subsequently rejoined Crosslink as an investor, where she continues to source and lead early-stage deals and hold board positions across a number of portfolio companies.
Contro is based in San Francisco. Outside of work, she has said she enjoys skiing, food, and tennis.
Investment Thesis & Focus
- Invests primarily at seed and Series A, typically writing checks in the ~$1M–$8M range with a sweet spot near $4.5M.
- Core sectors: vertical/enterprise software (SaaS), marketplaces, commerce, consumer internet, and digital healthcare — she describes her focus as "vertical software, marketplaces, enterprise applications, and commerce."
- Gravitates toward companies applying software and marketplace models to large, traditional industries (e.g., construction, insurance, home services, B2B go-to-market).
- Frequently takes an active, board-level role in portfolio companies rather than making passive bets.
- Brings an operator + finance lens (Pinterest sales ops, EY valuation) to evaluating early go-to-market and unit economics.
