Background

Gábor Vitán is a Hungarian private-equity and venture-capital executive who founded and leads Venturio, the risk-capital fund manager affiliated with the Wallis Group. He built his career inside Wallis Zrt., one of Hungary's largest and most diversified private holding groups, starting as a portfolio manager. From 2002 to 2004 he served as Controlling Director of the Wallis Group, where he helped establish wealth-management principles across the group's holdings. He then led reorganization efforts in Wallis's automotive division (2004–2006) before becoming the Group's transaction (M&A) director in June 2006, overseeing acquisitions across Hungarian SME sectors.

In 2013 Vitán was a founding member of Venturio Zrt. and took the CEO role in June 2013, when the firm won management rights over the Venturio 2013 Risk Capital Fund — a roughly 4.4 billion HUF vehicle capitalized through the JEREMIE II program (New Széchenyi Plan Risk Capital Program). The fund was structured with a two-year investment period and a seven-year overall life, targeting innovative, high-growth Hungarian SMEs.

Alongside his Venturio role, Vitán has served on the Supervisory Board of AutoWallis Nyrt. (the listed Wallis automotive/mobility company) and has been associated with related Wallis-affiliated fund-management entities. He is an active voice in the Hungarian VC ecosystem, having appeared as a speaker at industry events such as the Portfolio.hu private-equity conferences and the Venture Capital Summit. His education includes a graduate degree from Eötvös Loránd University (ELTE) and an undergraduate degree from Corvinus University of Budapest.

Investment Thesis & Focus

  • Invests through an EU-cofinanced JEREMIE risk-capital fund aimed at "innovative and rapidly growing Hungarian small and medium-sized enterprises with significant market potential."
  • Growth-stage orientation: the Venturio 2013 fund sat in the JEREMIE II "Growth" (Növekedési) sub-program, backing companies ready to scale and expand rather than pure idea-stage bets.
  • Willing to take majority or significant ownership stakes (e.g., acquiring majority control of Bubbles International) and to back capital increases that fund international expansion (e.g., USE unused's push to grow brand recognition abroad).
  • Deals in practice spanned consumer/retail and services as well as technology, reflecting a broad SME-growth mandate rather than a narrow sector thesis.
  • Deploys capital on a defined timeline — a two-year investment window with a seven-year fund life — favoring companies that can absorb capital and grow within that horizon.

Notable Investments

  • BUBBLES International Zrt. — Győr-based operator of Hungary's first non-stop, self-service laundromat network; Venturio took majority ownership in December 2013 and invested ~560 million HUF to roll out ~20 locations nationwide.
  • USE International Zrt. (USE unused) — Hungarian fine-clothing fashion brand (founded 2004 by Eszter Füzes, Attila Godena-Juhász and András Tóth); Venturio's 2013 fund made its first investment via a capital increase to support international expansion and brand recognition.
