Gail Boudreaux

Gail Koziara Boudreaux (born 1960 in Chicopee, Massachusetts) is President and CEO of Elevance Health, the Indianapolis-based health company formerly known as Anthem. She earned a B.A. in psychology (cum laude) from Dartmouth College in 1982 and an MBA (with high honors) from Columbia University in 1989. At Dartmouth she was a standout athlete — a three-time Ivy League Player of the Year in women's basketball, the school's all-time leading scorer and rebounder, and a four-time Ivy League shot-put champion — and is a member of the New England Basketball Hall of Fame.

Her healthcare career spans more than 30 years. She spent roughly two decades at Aetna in executive insurance roles, then became president of Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Illinois (2002) and executive vice president for external operations at parent Health Care Service Corporation (HCSC). In 2008 she joined UnitedHealth Group as EVP, and from 2011 to 2014 served as CEO of UnitedHealthcare, then the largest U.S. health insurer with roughly 45 million members. In 2015 she founded and ran her own healthcare-strategy consultancy, GKB Global Health, LLC.

In November 2017 she was named CEO of Anthem, Inc., which rebranded as Elevance Health in 2022. She now leads more than 100,000 associates serving over 110 million people, with 2024 revenue of about $175 billion. She has been ranked among Forbes' "World's 100 Most Powerful Women" (No. 10 in 2020, No. 14 in 2023) and Fortune's Most Powerful Women, and in 2023 became the first woman elected chair of The Business Council. She also serves on the board of directors of Target Corporation.
