Background
Gary H. Peart is CEO of Mayberry Group Ltd. and chairman of Mayberry Investments Ltd. Mayberry announced on October 16, 2024 that Peart, formerly CEO of Mayberry Investments Ltd., had been appointed CEO of Mayberry Group Ltd. with immediate effect and would become chairman of Mayberry Investments Ltd. effective November 1, 2024.
Peart joined Mayberry Investments in 2005 and led the firm for nearly two decades as it expanded beyond brokerage into investment banking, debt and equity restructuring, stock brokerage, investment management, financial advice, public-market transactions, and private-equity-style investing. A 2017 Jamaica Observer profile credits him and Mayberry with helping build Jamaica’s Junior Market by backing and preparing companies for public listing.
His education includes a B.Sc. in Economics from the University of the West Indies and an Executive MBA from Florida International University. Earlier career references list him as having worked in Jamaican corporate finance, including PWL Transition Ltd. and JMMB Bank, before his Mayberry tenure.
Peart also holds or has held multiple board roles. Supreme Ventures identifies him as executive chairman of its board and notes that he also serves on boards including the Jamaica Stock Exchange, Lasco Distributors, and IronRock Insurance.
Investment Thesis & Focus
- Peart’s best-documented investment focus is Mayberry’s model of backing Jamaican companies, improving their capital structure, and helping them access public markets.
- He has described Mayberry’s advantage as being “nimble and innovative” and rooted in “relationship-building.”
- Mayberry’s Junior Market playbook has two paths: invest in private companies, help them grow, then list them; or take a position at the time of listing.
- He has framed the firm’s IPO approach as a “win-win-win philosophy” for owners, investors, and the Jamaican economy.
- Sector fit appears broad but Jamaica-centered: Mayberry-backed or Mayberry-led listings have included finance, bakery, distribution, manufacturing, insurance, shipping, tourism, and gaming.
- Public comments suggest he values entrepreneurs with proven businesses that can use listing, dividends, and share liquidity to unlock growth capital.
