Background
Gary Stevenson is a longtime musculoskeletal-healthcare investor. He co-founded MB Venture Partners in 2001 with Joseph R. "Pitt" Hyde III. MBVP is a Memphis-based venture capital firm that provides capital and strategic direction to life-sciences companies and primarily invests in medical-device start-ups.
Before founding MBVP, Stevenson spent six years in healthcare investment banking and equity research and seven years in general management roles at Abbott Laboratories. His earlier work history also includes A.G. Edwards and Arthur Andersen, according to CB Insights.
At MB Venture Partners, Stevenson raised $120 million in committed capital across four funds and invested in more than two dozen start-ups, most focused on musculoskeletal disease. Earlier MNVC materials reported more than 50 start-up investments. MBVP-backed companies have been acquired by strategic buyers including Johnson & Johnson, Medtronic, Smith+Nephew, Zimmer Biomet, and Wright Medical, now part of Stryker.
In 2023, Stevenson joined HealthpointCapital as a Managing Director while bringing more than 20 years of life-sciences investing experience from MBVP. He has organized and hosted the Musculoskeletal New Ventures Conference for more than 20 consecutive years. He holds an undergraduate degree in accounting from the University of Missouri and an MBA from Northwestern University's J.L. Kellogg Graduate School of Management, and he is both a CPA and CFA charterholder.
