Gaurav Garg

Gaurav Garg is a founding partner of Wing Venture Capital, a Palo Alto-based firm he co-founded in 2013 with fellow veteran VC Peter Wagner. Wing is devoted to early-stage, long-term company building in business technology, investing in a deliberately small number of companies and dedicating maximum resources to each. Before Wing, Gaurav was a partner at Sequoia Capital from 2001 to 2012, where he established himself as one of Silicon Valley's most accomplished technology investors. He has been named to the Forbes Midas List of Top Tech Investors multiple times and was named Silicon Valley Venture Capitalist of the Year at the 2014 Deloitte Technology Fast 500 Awards.

Before his venture capital career, Gaurav was a prolific company builder. He founded Redback Networks in 1996, serving as Senior Vice President of Product Management and Board Member through its 1999 IPO on Nasdaq. He also co-founded and served on the board of Ruckus Wireless, which went public in 2012 (NYSE: RKUS). In total, he has founded five companies, including two that achieved public listings. While at Sequoia, he incubated and helped build FireEye (founded 2004, IPO 2013 on Nasdaq: FEYE) and Jasper (founded 2004, acquired by Cisco in 2016 for $1.4 billion) into significant businesses, serving on their boards for more than ten years each.

Gaurav holds a BS (1988) and MS (1990) in Electrical Engineering and a BS in Computer Science from Washington University in St. Louis, where he currently serves on the Board of Trustees (since 2018) and on the McKelvey School of Engineering's National Council (since 2015). He and his wife, Komal Shah, established the Gaurav Garg and Komal Shah Lectureship and support undergraduate scholarships at the university. He has received Distinguished Alumni Awards from both the university and the engineering school.

Gaurav takes an unabashedly long-term view of company development. He has served on boards for more than seven years on average and on some for longer than ten years, providing patient, hands-on partnership rather than short-term capital. Wing typically leads Series A and Series B rounds, investing $10-15M per company, with follow-on capacity from a ~$600M current fund.
