Background

Gaylord J. Bodet is a Principal and Founder of B.I.G. Capital LLC, a Weston, Florida–based private investment firm that acquires and operates established companies, with a concentration in software and technology. He co-founded the firm alongside other members of the Bodet family (Paul W. Bodet and Marcus G. Bodet appear on the firm's team), which operates with a family-office style, long-term hold approach rather than a fixed-life venture fund.

Bodet has spent most of his career in financial and operational leadership, focused on making companies more efficient through systems implementation, process development, and strategic planning. He began his career in the iDEN Subscriber Division at Motorola Inc., holding a range of roles across the accounting and finance teams. He then became Controller for Seven Seas Communications, a startup satellite-communications provider, where he implemented systems, developed policies, and helped drive strategic planning; Seven Seas grew into the largest provider in its market segment before being sold to Stratos Global Networks, a transaction Bodet helped execute.

He subsequently served as Vice President and CFO of TM Window & Door, a manufacturer of impact-resistant windows and doors, where he optimized inventory management, redesigned plant operations to improve throughput, built financial models, and reduced administrative expense. This operator-CFO background is the through-line of his investing style: B.I.G. Capital buys companies it believes it can run more efficiently rather than betting on early-stage growth.

Bodet earned a B.A. in Accounting from Florida Atlantic University (1987–1991).

Investment Thesis & Focus

  • Acquires established software and technology companies — and selectively businesses in energy, manufacturing, business services, telecom, and e-commerce — rather than funding early-stage startups.
  • Targets companies with an established product and customer base, a high percentage of recurring revenue, and negative-to-low growth that operational improvement can turn around.
  • Firm philosophy centers on "providing liquidity" to sellers (owners seeking an exit) and running acquired companies with "customer intimacy," "minimum disruption" during transitions, and greater R&D and revenue-synergy efficiency across the portfolio.
  • The team's stated expertise spans "turnarounds, corporate divestitures, mergers, acquisitions and financings for public and private companies," signaling a hands-on operational and M&A orientation rather than passive check-writing.

Notable Investments

  • Help Desk Technology Corporation (HDTC) / ServicePRO® — Toronto-based maker of service-desk and workflow-management software (founded 1994, 3,500+ client locations); B.I.G. Capital acquired all of its assets in September 2016.
  • Resource One, Incorporated — portfolio company (software/technology).
  • E-Net Corporation — portfolio company (technology).
  • Open Minds — portfolio company.
  • (Seven Seas Communications and TM Window & Door reflect Bodet's earlier operating roles, not B.I.G. Capital deals.)
