Background

Gene (Eugene) Wolfson is a New York–based finance executive whose role at Catalyst Investors was leading investor relations, fundraising, and business development rather than sourcing individual venture deals. He joined Catalyst in 2008 and, as Partner: Investor Relations, was responsible for the firm's capital-raising and limited-partner relationships and served on the Investment Committee. Catalyst Investors, founded in 2000, is a New York growth-equity firm that backs lower-middle-market, high-growth B2B technology, tech-enabled services, and digital-infrastructure companies.

Before Catalyst, Wolfson was a Managing Director at Citigroup, where he managed and completed the restructuring of the firm's distressed and micro-cap equity trading business and its international broker/dealer relationships. He came to Citigroup through its acquisition of TD Waterhouse Capital Markets, Inc., where he had been President and Founder, leading the equity capital markets business.

Earlier in his career, Wolfson founded and served as CEO of Gateway Capital Investment Group and Allegiance Securities, both of which were acquired by Toronto Dominion Bank affiliates — the transactions that ultimately connected him to TD Waterhouse. His career has therefore centered on equity capital markets, broker/dealer operations, and institutional fundraising more than early-stage startup investing.

More recently, Wolfson is listed as Managing Partner at Happy Capital, a private real-estate lending platform (headquartered in the New York area) that provides fast financing for investment real estate — fix-and-flip, BRRRR, rental, and construction loans. He holds a BS in Marketing and Management from Montclair State University and an MBA in Finance from Pace University's Lubin School of Business.

Investment Thesis & Focus

  • Operated primarily on the capital-raising / investor-relations side at Catalyst Investors — his function was raising and stewarding LP capital and serving on the Investment Committee, not writing seed checks.
  • Catalyst's own mandate (the vehicle he represented): growth equity into lower-middle-market, high-growth B2B technology companies — software/SaaS, tech-enabled services, digital infrastructure, and healthtech.
  • Emphasis on companies with real revenue traction and scalable, recurring-revenue business models, consistent with growth equity rather than pre-revenue seed bets.
  • His broader career expertise is in equity capital markets, broker/dealer businesses, and institutional fundraising; at Happy Capital his focus has shifted to asset-backed private real-estate lending.
