Background

George Majoros Jr. is Co-Managing Partner of EagleTree Capital, a New York–based middle-market private equity firm managing roughly $5.3 billion in assets (as of year-end 2023). He joined the firm's original predecessor, Wasserstein Perella, in 1993 and has been with the organization for more than 30 years — a tenure he has cited as unusually long for the middle market ("The partners have been together for over twenty years... The longevity of our senior team is pretty rare in the middle market"). He co-leads the firm alongside fellow Co-Managing Partner and shares oversight of its Investment Committee.

Before entering private equity, Majoros practiced law at Jones Day, where he specialized in contested takeovers, mergers and acquisitions, and corporate and securities law. He holds an A.B. in Economics from the University of Michigan and a J.D. from Case Western Reserve University School of Law, where he was Managing Editor of the Law Review. Earlier in his career he also served as Chief Executive Officer of the North American business of Yardley of London, a portfolio company.

Within EagleTree, Majoros leads the firm's investment activities in the consumer sector. The firm rebranded from Wasserstein Partners to EagleTree Capital and completed a friendly legal separation from the Wasserstein family in the mid-2010s, establishing an independent identity while remaining close to that family. Since 2001 the team has focused exclusively on mid-market buyouts, having raised five prior flagship funds and made more than 45 platform investments and 100+ add-on acquisitions.

He serves (or has served) on numerous portfolio company boards, currently including Corsair, Lignetics, MacKenzie-Childs, NuTrail, Summit Hill Foods, and Warbird Marine Holdings.

Investment Thesis & Focus

  • Invests in established, profitable middle-market companies via control buyouts and recapitalizations — this is buyout private equity, not seed/angel investing.
  • Personal sector specialization in consumer and consumer products; firm-wide mandate spans consumer, specialty industrial, and business services.
  • Emphasis on operational improvement and long-term value creation, backing companies alongside management teams (e.g., partnering with existing management in the Corsair acquisition).
  • Looks for businesses in structurally growing markets — on Corsair, he pointed to a "rapidly growing global gamer population, together with the rise of eSports and streaming," as making PC gaming "one of the world's most dynamic industries."
  • Values continuity and a long-tenured, aligned senior team as a differentiator in sourcing and executing mid-market deals.

Notable Investments

  • Corsair Gaming (CRSR) — Acquired a majority stake in 2017 in a transaction valued at ~$525M (from Francisco Partners); Corsair later IPO'd on Nasdaq in 2020. Majoros sits on the board.
