Background

Glen Tennison is a Canadian finance executive and investor best known as the co-founder, President and CFO of Dane Creek Capital Corp., a Mississauga-based merchant bank focused on the companion-animal sector. Dane Creek was established in 2016 by Tennison and Mark Warren to provide capital and hands-on management support to emerging pet-industry companies.

Before Dane Creek, Tennison was CFO of Pethealth Inc. from its creation in 1998 through its sale to Fairfax Financial Holdings Limited in 2014. In that role, he helped lead acquisitions including Nestlé Purina’s PurinaCare pet-insurance business, U.K. pet-insurance provider Pet Protect Ltd., and online pet-specialty retailer VetMedsDirect.co.uk. The CFO Centre Canada describes his track record as including more than 25 years of executive experience, more than $70 million raised, more than 15 M&A transactions, and the exit of a TSX-listed company to Fairfax Financial.

Tennison holds a B.Comm. (Honours) from McMaster University and earned his CPA, CA designation while working at PricewaterhouseCoopers. His LinkedIn profile lists him in Oakville, Ontario and currently associated with The CFO Centre Canada; his Dane Creek role remains listed by Equilar and several investment databases as co-founder, President and CFO.

Investment Thesis & Focus

  • Dane Creek’s stated thesis is that “reliable growth in the pet sector” and the team’s operating experience across B2B and B2C pet categories make the firm a hands-on partner for pet product and service companies.
  • The firm targets companion-animal companies with early revenue traction, particularly $1 million to $5 million in annual revenue, that need both capital and management support to scale.
  • Dane Creek will fund pure startups where it believes a market opportunity remains unmet, but its activity has leaned heavily toward acquisitions and growth financing.
  • Focus areas include frozen raw pet food, pet treats and supplements, sustainable/novel protein ingredients, alternative veterinary-care delivery, pet insurance, pet hotels/daycare, biotechnology, and pet-owner technology.
  • The firm’s investment horizon is described as long-term and shaped by pet-owner demographic shifts and category trends.
