Background

Greg Ruddock is a Joint Chief Executive Officer and Founding Partner of Ironbridge, an Australian private equity firm he co-founded in 2003 alongside Neil Broekhuizen, Paul Evans and Julian Knights. He co-leads Ironbridge's Investment and Portfolio Management activities with Neil Broekhuizen and has sat on the Ironbridge Investment Committee since the firm's inception. Within the firm, Greg has led its financial and outsourced-services investment programme across both Ironbridge Funds.

Greg qualified as an accountant and holds a Bachelor of Commerce degree from the University of Western Australia. Before entering private equity, he spent roughly twelve years in operational roles — at the major Australian industrial group Wesfarmers and at the diversified listed company Avatar, where he served as Managing Director of one of its major subsidiaries. He joined GPEL (Gresham Private Equity) in 1999, where he led the development of Electronic Banking Solutions/Cashcard ("EBS/Cashcard") within the GPEL portfolio before spinning out to help found Ironbridge.

Over his career Greg has represented the Ironbridge Funds on the boards of numerous portfolio companies, including Stardex, Super A-mart, EnviroWaste, Easternwell, FleetPartners, ISGM and AOS. More recently he has focused on Ironbridge's financial-services bets, taking board roles at fintech lender Prospa Group (ASX: PGL) and challenger bank Judo (Judo Capital / Judo Bank).

Investment Thesis & Focus

  • Invests primarily through control-oriented private equity transactions — buyouts, management buyouts, and expansion/growth capital — rather than early-stage venture or angel cheques.
  • Targets established, medium-to-large businesses in Australia and New Zealand with proven cash flows, not pre-revenue startups.
  • Greg's personal track record concentrates on financial services and outsourced business services — e.g., payments (Cashcard), fleet/finance (FleetPartners, Eclipx), lending (Prospa) and banking (Judo).
  • Favours a hands-on portfolio-management and board-governance approach, typically taking board seats and helping scale operations toward IPO or trade-sale exits.

Notable Investments

  • Prospa Group (ASX: PGL) — Australian small-business fintech lender; Ironbridge backed it and Greg served as a Non-Executive Director and was appointed Chairman of the Board (2018), later listing on the ASX.
  • Judo Capital / Judo Bank — Australian SME challenger bank; Greg has served as a Director / Alternate Director.
  • Eclipx Group — Fleet leasing and diversified financial services business (later ASX-listed); Greg was a director before stepping down to focus on Prospa.
  • FleetPartners — Vehicle leasing and fleet management business.
  • Super A-mart — Australian furniture retailer.
  • EnviroWaste — New Zealand waste-management company.
  • Easternwell — Australian drilling and energy services group.
  • ISGM — Field-services/workforce management business.
  • Stardex (Stardex Insurance) — Insurance/financial services investment.
  • AOS and EBS/Cashcard — Earlier outsourced-services and electronic-banking/payments holdings (Cashcard via GPEL).
