Background

Henry Huntly Haight IV, known as Tony Haight, was a venture investor and company builder associated with Advent International, Argo Global Capital, GIV Venture Partners, and several technology-company boards. He died on December 16, 2025, at age 92 at his home in Beverly, Massachusetts.

Haight graduated from the University of California at Berkeley and Harvard Business School. Before his venture-capital career, he worked in forest products, consulted on forestry projects internationally, and founded or acquired 11 companies in fields including forest and consumer products, many with operations in Asia, Latin America, and Canada.

In 1983, Haight helped co-found Advent International Corp. and served as Managing Director. At Advent, he was responsible for operations in Canada and the Pacific Rim and oversaw 27 portfolio investments. He later founded Argo Global Capital, described as a private investment company with offices in Boston, Montreal, London, and Hong Kong, focused on growth investments in earlier-stage companies.

Haight was closely associated with OnMobile. Argo Global Capital was a major investor in OnMobile Systems/OnMobile Global, and Haight served as Chairman of OnMobile Global from December 7, 2011 to August 20, 2014. He also served on boards including OnMobile Systems, Real Vision Technology, Chinatron, Cerebrus Solutions, ArgNor, Genelabs Technologies, and Neural Technologies.

Investment Thesis & Focus

  • Argo Global Capital focused on “the convergence of wireless communications and the Internet,” especially mobile commerce, transactions, entertainment, wireless portals, and applications.
  • The firm backed companies serving wireless and telecom operators, particularly technologies that helped operators introduce differentiated services, generate additional revenue, reduce service-delivery costs, or enter new markets.
  • Argo invested across growth stages, from start-up through buyout and restart situations, with a stated emphasis on expansion-stage financing.
  • Argo typically led deals and took board seats in portfolio companies.
  • In a 2001 Argo press release on Cerebrus Solutions, Haight said the company was “a perfect fit within our investment portfolio” because telecom fraud detection and revenue assurance were areas where Argo already had expertise and where the technology addressed carrier needs as networks evolved toward IP, GPRS, and 3G.
