Hans Boerma

Hans Boerma is a healthcare executive, entrepreneur and physician who founded and serves as Managing Partner of KBT Partners, a Marblehead, Massachusetts strategic advisory firm focused on healthcare IT, services and emerging technology companies. He trained as a physician at the University of Amsterdam Medical School (MD) and holds an M.Sc. from the University of Toronto, where he has taught in the healthcare management and strategy program. His self-described experience spans "running a $400M healthcare technology portfolio," turning around a roughly $350M oncology company using a full-risk strategy, and building two startups in the physician-provider and insurance markets.

His operating career covers more than three decades in health information technology. He spent roughly 12 years at Shared Medical Systems (later absorbed into Siemens/Cerner), where he co-founded the Decision Support Systems Division — growing it to about $28M in sales at high margins — and ran the European DSS division out of London. He went on to serve as Chief Medical Officer at Perot Systems, where he led a turnaround of a publicly traded physician practice management company, and founded a Pennsylvania-based physician organization. He later spent about five years in the health insurance sector with Nextera and deNovis, building and selling infrastructure platforms to commercial payers, including a language-based computing platform he developed as a startup founder and CEO.

Immediately prior to founding KBT, Boerma was Senior Vice President for clinical, financial and decision-support products at Eclipsys, a ~$400M healthcare IT vendor. Through KBT he now works with healthcare companies at all stages — from Fortune 500 firms to early-stage startups — advising on corporate strategy, go-to-market, financial advisory, M&A and post-acquisition integration, and acting as an angel investor and advisor to companies in his areas of expertise.

Beyond KBT, Boerma holds several advisory and governance roles in the sector. He serves on the International Advisory Committee of the Rossy Cancer Network at McGill University, is a Physician Advisor associated with Artera (a healthcare patient-communication company), and joined neurological-care startup Neu Health (Kneu Health) as an advisor in 2024.
