Background

Hans Nolte is a co-founder and co-owner of the Hahn Air Group, one of the world's leading airline-ticketing and distribution businesses, headquartered in Dreieich near Frankfurt. Hahn Air Lines was founded in 1994 (originally under the Saspo Holding umbrella) and grew into the largest company of its kind worldwide, enabling travel agencies to issue tickets — via the well-known "HR-169" document — for airlines that do not participate directly in a GDS or BSP. Nolte has led the company as President/CEO and Managing Director (Geschäftsführer) alongside co-founder Nico (Nikolaus) Gormsen for its entire history; in 2022 the two stepped back from day-to-day CEO duties (handing the role to Kirsten Rehmann) while remaining owners and executive directors of the group.

In 2012 Nolte and the Hahn Air group launched HR Ventures GmbH, the group's dedicated investment vehicle — the "HR" deliberately echoing Hahn Air's two-letter airline code. HR Ventures backs early-stage and growth-stage startups, drawing on the group's expertise and network in travel, distribution, and technology. Nolte is listed in the company's Impressum as one of its Managing Directors, together with Nikolaus Gormsen and Kirsten Rehmann.

Beyond his commercial roles, Nolte is a philanthropist: in 2012 he and Gormsen founded the Hahnair Foundation ("Hahn Air Foundation and Friends"), a charity that has since celebrated its 10th anniversary. Nolte sits on its Board of Trustees, described there as President & CEO of Hahn Air Lines GmbH, and the foundation is noted as holding "great personal importance" for him.

Investment Thesis & Focus

  • Invests as the corporate venture arm of the Hahn Air Group, positioning itself as a "Frühphasen- und Wachstumsinvestor" — an early-stage and growth investor able to finance companies across multiple funding rounds.
  • Emphasizes scalable, cutting-edge technology companies, with a clear affinity for the group's home turf of travel, airline distribution, and mobility, but also active in e-commerce marketplaces, HR-tech, and data-center/energy-efficiency tech.
  • Stated value-add is hands-on support and access to an "excellent network of experts and investment partners" — leaning on Hahn Air's deep industry relationships rather than acting as a purely financial backer.
  • Frequently co-invests alongside other funds (e.g., Howzat Partners, Verve Ventures/Verve Capital) rather than leading alone.
  • Important status note: Following a strategic reorientation (from ~2018), HR Ventures publicly stated it has stopped taking on new engagements and is concentrating on financing its existing portfolio through all growth stages — so new inbound pitches are generally not being considered.
