Background
Harley Miller is the founder, CEO, and Managing Partner of Left Lane Capital, a New York–based global venture capital firm he launched in 2019 to back internet and consumer-technology companies during their breakout growth phase. Before starting the firm, Miller spent roughly nine years (joining around 2010–2011) at Insight Partners, where he invested in high-growth internet companies and was part of teams backing names such as HelloFresh, Delivery Hero, N26, Calm, Udemy, and BlaBlaCar, and served on the boards of companies including N26 and Calm. Earlier in his career he worked as an analyst at Lubert-Adler Real Estate Funds in Philadelphia, focused on acquisitions and asset management.
Miller graduated magna cum laude from the University of Pennsylvania's Wharton School with a BS in Economics, with concentrations spanning venture capital / consumer-facing industries and information management. While at Wharton he launched his first startup, MobileEatz, a mobile food-ordering portal aimed at college campuses — an early signal of the consumer-internet focus that would define his career.
Since founding Left Lane, Miller has scaled the firm rapidly. He famously raised the debut fund by taking roughly 2,500 LP meetings; Fund I closed at $630 million, and Fund II closed at $1.4 billion in 2022. As of March 31, 2026, Left Lane reports approximately $3.8 billion in assets under management. Miller was named to the Forbes 30 Under 30 (Venture Capital) list in 2017.
Miller is known for an intensely data-driven investing style — he has trained his investment team in SQL and Alteryx and emphasizes transaction-level data analysis to underwrite hyper-scale potential. He describes conviction as being "so resolute that nobody can tell him he's wrong," and then pressure-testing those beliefs rigorously before committing.
Investment Thesis & Focus
- Backs hyper-growth consumer and internet/technology companies that build durable, long-lived customer relationships (5–10+ years) rather than transactional, churn-heavy models.
- Prioritizes strong unit economics, loyal customers, and real revenue over growth-at-all-costs — explicitly contrasting this with venture-backed startups "chasing unsustainable growth."
- Stage: Seed to Series C, concentrated on Series A/B breakout-growth rounds; checks typically ~$20M–$30M initially (range roughly $5M–$75M).
- Sectors: consumer internet, fintech, SMB/vertical SaaS, edtech, food & ag, health & wellness, e-commerce, and gaming.
- Heavy emphasis on transaction-level and cohort data to validate scale potential before investing — a quantitative, analytics-first diligence process.
- Global mandate — the firm invests across North America, Europe, LatAm, Africa, India, Asia-Pacific, and MENA, and supports companies via an in-house value-add platform (branded "Accelerate").
