Background
Harry Briggs is a Partner on Astanor’s Venture investment team. Astanor’s own profile says he joined the firm in January 2024, after more than a decade investing in technology companies and building venture platforms. His current firm describes its mission as transforming the agrifood system “from soil to gut,” backing companies across the food and agriculture value chain.
Briggs started his career at McKinsey, then spent much of his twenties as co-founder of Firefly Tonics, a health-drinks brand that later exited to private equity. He then moved into venture capital at Balderton Capital, where Astanor says he sourced major technology deals including Revolut, GoCardless, and THG.
He later co-founded BGF Ventures, a £200M UK-focused venture fund, where Astanor credits him with backing unicorns Paddle and Gousto. He then co-founded OMERS Ventures Europe; as Managing Partner there, he built the London-based European team and led investments including WeFox in Germany, Deliverect in Belgium, and Flagstone in the UK.
Public LinkedIn/search snippets list his education as University of Oxford and his location as London. Astanor’s own page also notes that he runs a farm in Buckinghamshire, which is relevant to his current focus on food and agriculture investing.
Investment Thesis & Focus
- Astanor Venture targets Series A and B companies with €5-10M tickets, primarily in Europe and North America.
- The firm looks for “scalable businesses that can have global impact” and says it works through boards and its network of industry experts to help companies grow.
- Astanor’s broader thesis is agrifood transformation: the firm says it invests across the entire agrifood value chain and backs founders building a more resilient, sustainable food system.
- For seed, Astanor says it partners with founders “at the earliest stages of development” with €1M tickets in Europe and the U.S., although Briggs is listed on the Venture team rather than as the named seed contact.
- In Reshape’s 2024 Series A, Briggs framed the investment around biology automation, saying Reshape sits at the intersection of “robotics, AI-powered analysis, and next-gen bioeconomy.”
- In 4AG Robotics’ 2025 Series B, Briggs emphasized applied robotics in farming, saying mushrooms are especially suited to robotic solutions and that 4AG could help transform agriculture through AI and robotics.
