Background
Hector Fleming is a Joint / Co-Group Chief Executive Officer of Imara Holdings Limited, a pan-African financial services group, and the founder (with Harry Wulfsohn) of Fleming Wulfsohn Africa (FWA). He holds a BA (Hons) from the University of Newcastle upon Tyne and has more than fifteen years of private equity and capital-markets experience across Africa and other emerging markets. Earlier in his career he was a director on Standard Chartered Bank's private equity coverage team — based in London and focused on Sub-Saharan Africa — and previously worked in Standard Chartered's private equity group deploying growth capital across emerging Asian markets (London, Hong Kong and Singapore).
Fleming co-founded Fleming Wulfsohn Africa in 2012 (the FWA partnership with Harry Wulfsohn and Tom Gaffney was structured to source, invest in and actively manage private equity and real-estate opportunities in Central and Southern Africa on behalf of international investors). In June 2015 he moved from non-executive to executive director status at Imara to head the group's newly created private equity business, at a time when Imara reported funds under management of roughly USD 560 million. Following FWA's acquisition of control of Imara in 2017, the group's activity migrated into the Imara Group, which is owner-managed by the Fleming and Wulfsohn families.
Fleming sits on the boards of numerous portfolio and group companies, including The Johannesburg Land Company Limited, Clover Alloys SA Limited, Zambezi Ranching and Cropping Ltd, the Zambezi Berry Company, Yellowstripe Resources Limited, GoldMoney Networks Limited and Netagio Holdings Limited (he is also a former director of GoldMoney Inc.). At Imara he serves on the Remuneration, Audit and Risk board subcommittees. The Fleming and Wulfsohn families bring combined backgrounds spanning more than a century of investing and operating in Africa and international financial services — including enterprises such as Trans Zambezi Industries and the Stenham Group.
