Background
Henry Sohn is an Operating Partner at Morado Ventures, the Palo Alto–based seed fund founded in 2010 by former Yahoo! executives Ash Patel and Mike Marquez. In his role he provides hands-on operational support to portfolio companies, drawing on more than two decades of technology operating experience across product, general management, operations, and strategy. He is also listed as a Partner at the affiliated E12 Ventures.
Sohn was one of Yahoo!'s earliest employees, joining the product team in 1996 as (by E12's account) the company's third product manager. Over roughly seven years his role expanded to Vice President and General Manager of Front Doors & Central Services, overseeing products used by hundreds of millions of users each month, and he later served as Vice President & Chief of Staff / VP Business Management to the CTO at Yahoo! (circa 2007–2010). Earlier and adjacent roles in his career include Chief Product Officer at Flurry, Inc. (2006–2007), VP at Gateway.com, and VP, Business Operations at DataTorrent, Inc. E12's bio also references earlier work at Apple, Intuit, Compaq, and Berkeley Systems.
A defining recent chapter was his work with Apprente, a Morado AI portfolio company building voice-based conversational technology. Serving as an advisor (roughly 2017–2019), Sohn helped lead go-to-market, product strategy, and business development, and was directly involved in McDonald's acquisition of Apprente, announced September 10, 2019 — the deal that became the foundation of McDonald's "McD Tech Labs" drive-thru voice-ordering effort.
Sohn holds a degree from UC Berkeley (his Morado bio cites Sociology; E12 lists a B.A. earned in 1992).
Investment Thesis & Focus
