Background
Hernán Guerrero Hinojosa is a Chilean investor with more than 20 years of experience spanning financial-sector regulation, equity research, investment banking, asset management and, more recently, venture capital. Earlier in his career he was Deputy Research Manager at FIT Research (2008–2010), Head of Research and Vice President at BBVA (2010–2013), and Head of Local Equities / Portfolio Manager at AFP Capital (2013–2014), one of Chile's large pension-fund administrators. His public-markets and research background — covering sectors such as natural resources, retail, food & beverage, seafood and construction/real estate — underpins his later work as a fund and portfolio surveillance specialist.
He transitioned into private investing over the past decade, serving as a Managing Partner at LPP (his contact firm, lpp.cl) and taking on angel and advisory roles across the Chilean startup ecosystem — including angel investments in Delfos Talent and Petvet, a director role at Apprecio | Dcanjes, and an advisory board seat at the venture firm Dadneo.
In 2021 he co-founded GG Capital, a Santiago-based venture capital firm, where he is a General Partner alongside co-founder Iván Gen. GG Capital positions itself as a value-add early-stage investor that provides "more than capital" — partnership, operating experience, networking and fundraising support — and also allocates to other VC funds. As of its public materials the firm reports roughly 19 portfolio startups across 11 countries, some 47 backed founders, and investments in about 8 VC funds.
On the education side, he holds a BSc in Business Administration from Universidad Técnica Federico Santa María (2000–2005), completed a Master in Corporate Law (LL.M.) and post-graduate M&A coursework at Universidad de los Andes (2020–2022), and took executive education on company directorship at Universidad Adolfo Ibáñez (2019).
Investment Thesis & Focus
- Invests primarily at pre-seed, seed and Series A, with checks roughly $100K–$5M (sweet spot ~$2.5M), and also takes LP positions in other VC funds.
- Backs people first: GG Capital says it looks for "visionary people who want to impact the world" and "outstanding entrepreneurs with long-term motivation to build iconic companies."
- Sector-broad within tech: fintech, healthtech (including medical devices and digital health), proptech, retail tech, insurtech, SaaS, mobility/logistics and traveltech.
- Latin America focus from a Chile base, frequently co-investing with established regional and global players rather than leading alone.
- Brings a financial-markets and diligence lens (research, asset management, fund surveillance) to early-stage investing — likely to scrutinize governance, metrics and capital structure.
