Background

Himanshu Saxena is Chairman and CEO of Lotus Infrastructure Partners, the successor firm to Starwood Energy Group Global, which rebranded effective January 1, 2023 and manages approximately $7 billion in assets. He joined Starwood Energy in February 2008, was named co-head of the business in 2015, and was elevated to CEO effective November 1, 2017, taking responsibility for the firm's overall management and its investment program and strategy. Over his career he has led the acquisition and development of numerous power generation, transmission, midstream, and downstream projects in North America with an aggregate enterprise value of more than $13 billion.

Before Starwood, Saxena was an investment banker in JPMorgan's global energy and utilities group. Earlier he worked at American Electric Power, where he focused on managing financial risk in the power-trading business and optimizing a generation portfolio, and he began his career as a chemical engineer at industrial-gases company Praxair (now Linde), where he filed for several patents — an unusual path from operating engineer to infrastructure PE principal.

He earned an MBA from Duke University's Fuqua School of Business (as a Fuqua Scholar), an M.S. in Chemical Engineering from Cornell University, and a Bachelor of Technology in Chemical Engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Bombay. Beyond the firm, he serves on the Board of Directors of the American Council on Renewable Energy (ACORE) and on advisory boards for Cornell University's Infrastructure Policy Program and the Cornell Energy Systems Institute.

Note on the stub data: the email and phone belong to the Greenwich, CT Starwood/Lotus operation, and the title "CEO" is correct — but the "Angel Investors / Seed Round" classification does not match his verified profile. Saxena runs a large energy-infrastructure private equity platform, not an angel/seed operation.

Investment Thesis & Focus

  • Invests institutional infrastructure equity across the energy value chain: renewable generation, battery storage, electric transmission, thermal power, renewable/low-carbon fuels, and midstream/downstream assets.
  • Focused exclusively on North America.
  • Pursues both operating-asset acquisitions and greenfield development/construction (e.g., financing and building wind, solar, and transmission projects), rather than early-stage company bets.
  • Firm-stated positioning: supervision of "the Firm's investment program and strategy, as well as overall management of the Firm," backing large-scale power and transmission infrastructure that enables the energy transition.
  • Lotus's active portfolio comprises roughly 11 projects totaling ~3,835 MW across operational, under-construction/ready-to-build, and pre-RTB stages.

Notable Investments

  • Consolidated Edison renewable portfolio (June 2021) — Acquired a 252 MW operating portfolio: Coram Wind (102 MW, Tehachapi, CA) and Crane Solar (150 MW, Crane, TX) plus an adjacent 25 MW battery development.
  • TenWest Link — A high-capacity transmission line under construction to deliver thousands of megawatts of wind and solar power into California.
  • Horse Creek & Electra wind farms (2018) — Wind assets sold to Skyline Renewables under an agreement with Starwood Energy Group.
  • ~4,500 MW of power generation and transmission developed/acquired across North America during his earlier Starwood tenure (~$5B enterprise value at the time of his CEO appointment), growing to >$13B over his career.
