Background
Holger Witte is a Berlin-based venture investor best known for his five-year tenure at Vorwerk Ventures. Startbase reported that he joined Vorwerk Ventures in 2019 as a Partner and brought 11 years of VC experience at the time of a 2021 interview. In August 2022, Startbase reported that he was promoted to Managing Partner alongside Sascha Günther, Dirk Meurer, and Norbert Muschong shortly after Vorwerk Ventures announced a €150 million fund.
Before Vorwerk Ventures, Witte worked at Project A Ventures in Berlin. Startup Camp Berlin’s 2015 speaker bio lists him as Director of Investor Relations, helping Project A portfolio companies find co-investors, and says he previously served as Director of New Business, identifying new investments and incubation projects. The same bio says he had earlier been Head of New Business and Online Investment Manager at Bauer Digital in Hamburg.
Earlier in his career, Witte worked in consulting at The Boston Consulting Group, Ernst & Young, and Arthur Andersen. Startup Camp Berlin states that he holds an MBA from Columbia Business School in New York City and founded an online business, intrabid.com, in the U.S. in 2007.
In January 2025, Witte announced on LinkedIn that, after five years as a General Partner at Vorwerk Ventures, he had decided to “turn the page and explore new opportunities.” CompanyHouse records for MM Venture Management GmbH also show Holger Witte leaving the company’s management, with the register notice dated January 6, 2025.
Investment Thesis & Focus
- Vorwerk Ventures’ current thesis is to invest in “capital-efficient, validated businesses in DACH” rather than hype-driven models.
- The firm states that it backs companies in established markets with solid fundamentals, genuine customer demand, and a clear exit path.
- During Witte’s tenure, Startbase described Vorwerk Ventures as usually investing at seed and participating in Series A rounds; Startbase also described Witte’s expertise as focused on consumer-tech startups.
- Witte’s Signal profile lists him as an investor in enterprise and enterprise-application companies at pre-seed and Series A, with a $100,000 to $5 million range and a $1.5 million sweet spot.
- In a Startbase interview, Witte emphasized founder conviction and pitch quality: he said it should be enjoyable to discuss the idea with founders and that he needs to believe founders themselves think the company can become large.
- He is direct about integrity in diligence. In the same interview, he said, “I don’t need a self-appointed sales guru,” and cited a case where a startup hid a legal-risk issue as a reason not to invest.
