Background

Ian Oxley spent nearly two decades as a private equity investor at Silverfleet Capital, the London-based mid-market buyout firm (the former buyout arm of Prudential/PPM Capital, which spun out and rebranded as Silverfleet in 2007–2009). Companies House records show he was an LLP member of Silverfleet Capital Partners LLP from September 2006 until his resignation on 30 November 2023. At Silverfleet he was a Partner responsible for transaction origination across the firm's offices, with particular focus on the financial and business services sector.

Before Silverfleet, Oxley built his private equity career at JP Morgan Partners, where he spent roughly six years as an Investment Director. Earlier still, he worked as a strategy consultant in London, Stockholm and Boston, first with Arkwright and later with Bain & Company. This consulting-then-PE path underpins the operational and origination focus he brought to his deals.

Academically, Oxley read Mathematics at Robinson College, University of Cambridge, and holds an MBA from Harvard Business School (1996–1998), where he graduated as a Baker Scholar (top of his class).

Since leaving Silverfleet, Oxley has become Managing Partner at Prospero Partners LLP, a London vehicle (registered at 71–75 Shelton Street, Covent Garden; incorporated 2024) through which he now makes and manages early-stage / angel investments. This is the activity that places him in the "angel investor, seed round" category, distinct from his large-cap buyout career.

Investment Thesis & Focus

  • Stage: Now operates at the early / seed end as an angel through Prospero Partners — a marked shift from the £50m+ buyouts of his Silverfleet years.
  • Sector lean: Draws on deep expertise in financial services, fund administration/servicing, and technology-enabled B2B services, the areas where he originated and led deals at Silverfleet.
  • Geography: UK and European focus, consistent with Silverfleet's pan-European mandate and his London base.
  • What makes him say yes (inferred from track record): Founders in B2B/financial-services software and services with a clear path to a strategic or PE exit — the profile of Ipes/Quantios and Onport, both of which reached successful exits under his involvement.
  • Note: No publicly published personal thesis statement or fixed check-size figure was found; treat sector/stage points as derived from his deal history rather than a stated mandate.

Notable Investments

  • Ipes — Guernsey-based private equity fund administration/outsourcing provider. Oxley co-led Silverfleet's ~£50m (~$76m) buyout from RJD Partners in August 2013; Silverfleet later sold Ipes to Apex Group, reportedly returning ~3.8x and a ~30% IRR.
  • Quantios / Redwood Holdco — The rebranded/reorganised Ipes trust-and-fund software business; Oxley served as a director of Quantios Ltd and Redwood Holdco Ltd (both 2022) during Silverfleet's ownership.
  • Coventya — International specialty chemicals (surface finishing) business headquartered in France; a Silverfleet portfolio company sold to Element Solutions Inc, generating a reported ~2.5x gross return.
  • Metal-Pages Limited — Metals-pricing information business; Oxley was a director (2001–2003), an earlier-career board role.
  • Onport (e-commerce marketplace/dropship software; CEO Jon Bolt) — an angel/Prospero-era investment that reached a successful exit in 2025, which Oxley publicly celebrated on LinkedIn.
