Background
Ids van der Weij is a veteran Dutch private-equity and venture-capital investor with more than 25 years in the field, during which he reports having made over 100 investments and served on numerous company boards across the Netherlands, Europe, and the United States. He studied Business Administration (MBA) at the University of Groningen, served early in his career as an officer in the Royal Dutch Marines, and began his finance career in corporate finance and lending at ABN AMRO NV.
He went on to lead several Dutch investment vehicles, holding CEO or Managing Partner roles at Paribas Deelnemingen, Friesland Bank Investments, and Ondernemend Oranje Kapitaal (OOK) — a holding company launched in 2013 to back small and medium-sized Dutch enterprises. At Friesland Bank Investments he oversaw a portfolio of roughly EUR 220 million, investing its own balance sheet (typically EUR 10–20 million per company) into relatively conservative sectors with predictable cash flows. He also spent about six years as Vice Chairman of the Dutch private-equity and venture-capital association (Nederlandse Vereniging van Participatiemaatschappijen, NVP).
Today he is Managing Partner of Partners in Equity, an Amsterdam-based investment firm. His own fund vehicle, Partners in Equity V (PiE V), focuses notably on life sciences, while the broader Partners in Equity platform has positioned itself around impact themes — sustainable agriculture and food systems, the circular economy, and climate solutions — making equity and growth investments primarily in Europe. He invests personally as well, using the "Ook Kapitaal" vehicle (ookkapitaal.nl) associated with his angel/seed activity.
He currently sits on several boards: he is a non-executive director of Diceros Therapeutics and a member of the supervisory board of Micreos B.V., and in November 2023 he was appointed a non-executive director of listed medical-device company Sequana Medical. Earlier supervisory-board roles included Arboned and Opthec.
Investment Thesis & Focus
- Backs companies with proven track records and predictable cash flows — a discipline carried over from his Friesland Bank Investments era, where he stressed investing in "relatively conservative sectors" with demonstrated performance.
- Strong life-sciences / biotech orientation through Partners in Equity V (e.g., Diceros Therapeutics, Micreos, Sequana Medical).
- Through the wider Partners in Equity platform, pursues impact investing across sustainable agriculture & food, circularity, and climate solutions, seeking both financial returns and measurable environmental/social impact.
- Institutional tickets start around EUR 5 million for later-stage growth companies; separately makes personal angel/seed investments (the basis for the "Angel Investor / Seed Round" framing) via Ook Kapitaal.
- Brings hands-on board-level involvement rather than passive capital — consistent with a career spent serving on the boards of portfolio companies.
Notable Investments
- Sequana Medical (Euronext Brussels) — Belgian medical-device company; Van der Weij appointed non-executive director, confirmed at the November 2023 Extraordinary General Meeting.

- Micreos B.V. — Dutch biotech (endolysin-based antibacterials); member of its supervisory board.
- Ondernemend Oranje Kapitaal (OOK) portfolio — Dutch SMEs backed via the holding company he co-led from 2013.
- Friesland Bank Investments portfolio — Dutch mid-market companies, with individual investments historically in the EUR 10–20 million range across a ~EUR 220 million book.
- Historical supervisory roles at Arboned and Opthec.
