Background

Imre Eszenyi is an investment-banking-trained entrepreneur and financier with more than 30 years of experience structuring and executing capital-markets, private-equity and derivatives transactions globally. He is a Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) and a member of the CFA Institute, and he previously held a role at UBS Investment Bank before moving into principal investing and entrepreneurship.

He is the founder and Managing Partner of Orchestra Capital LLP, an independent investment firm headquartered at 73 Cornhill, London (EC3V 3QQ) with a presence in Washington, D.C. The firm provides capital and financial solutions in special situations — special-situation private equity, debt and real-estate transactions — and invests in fast-developing companies at an inflection point, funding growth strategies and acquisitions while partnering with industry experts and management teams.

Alongside his firm, Eszenyi is an active angel investor and a leader in the Harvard Business School alumni angel community: he serves as Chairman of HBS Alumni Angels of Washington, D.C., sits on the board of the HBS Alumni Angels Association, and has been involved in global deal syndication for the network. He is a graduate of Harvard Business School's Owner/President Management (OPM) program (OPM 40, completed ~2008–2010).

Earlier, Eszenyi co-founded and served as CEO of Corner Media, Inc. (founded 2011, with Joe Kunigonis and Tom Farasy), a location-based digital out-of-home media company that placed advertising screens in high-pedestrian-traffic locations and operated the Glanz.tv network — reflecting his hands-on operating experience in addition to his investing work.

Investment Thesis & Focus

  • Backs "fast-developing companies that are at an inflection point," funding growth strategies and acquisitions in partnership with industry experts and management.
  • Invests across a wide range of industries rather than a single vertical; documented angel activity in medical devices/medical supplies and digital media.
  • At the firm level, Orchestra Capital targets special situations — private equity, debt and real estate — emphasizing the ability to quickly value, acquire and settle private-equity transfers within a short period.
  • As an angel, operates at the seed/angel stage, frequently through the HBS Alumni Angels network he chairs in Washington, D.C.
  • Brings a capital-markets and structuring lens (CFA, ex-UBS) plus operating experience as a former startup co-founder/CEO.

Notable Investments

  • microMend — medical-supplies / med-tech company developing skin-closure devices; angel investment (documented investment date Dec. 23, 2014).
  • Corner Media, Inc. / Glanz.tv — digital out-of-home media company he co-founded and led as CEO (founded 2011); an operating venture rather than a passive investment.
