Isaac Saldana

Isaac Saldana is best known as the co-founder and first CEO of SendGrid, the cloud email-delivery platform founded in 2009 with Tim Jenkins and Jose Lopez. SendGrid went through Techstars Boulder, grew into a large-scale developer infrastructure company, completed its IPO in November 2017, and was acquired by Twilio in a transaction valued at approximately $3 billion when it closed on February 1, 2019.

Saldana studied at the University of California, Riverside, where Startupfest and Startup Grind bios say he received a double major in Computer Science and Electrical Engineering. His SendGrid writing says he moved from Mexico to the United States at age 14, attended UC Riverside, and created several startups after college before SendGrid. At SendGrid, Saldana moved from CEO into president/product leadership as the company scaled. In a SendGrid spotlight, he wrote that hiring an outside CEO allowed him to focus on product and “making email better.” SendGrid’s 2017 company story identifies him as one of the three founders and the first CEO, and describes how he recruited Jenkins and Lopez after proving early demand for email deliverability infrastructure.

After leaving SendGrid in 2018, Saldana founded Joy Labs Ventures and returned to email infrastructure through Laneful. Joy Labs describes its mission as building AI-powered communication platforms, and Laneful lists Saldana as Founder & CEO, building private email infrastructure for high-volume senders that want to own their IPs and reputation.
