Background

Jack Liangjie Xu is a Chinese-American software engineer, technology executive, and venture capitalist. Born in Guangdong province, China, he took the national college entrance examination a year early and was accepted to Sun Yat-Sen University, where he earned both a Bachelor's and a Master's degree in Information Management. He then moved to the United States to pursue a Ph.D. at the University of California, Berkeley School of Information, where he was a member of Berkeley's Text Retrieval Conference (TREC) Competition team. He began his technology career in 1996 at the Excite search engine while still pursuing his doctorate at Berkeley.

Xu built a distinguished career across some of the most prominent technology companies in the world. He served as CTO at NetEase (May 2000 to July 2002), Vice President of Engineering and Research at eBay (October 2002 to April 2008), and Corporate Vice President for Cisco's Unified Communications business unit. In 2013, he was named Co-President and Chief Technology Officer of SINA Corporation, operator of Sina Weibo -- the most influential social media platform in China. At SINA, he led the company's technology and product operations and oversaw the Weibo platform during a period of significant growth, including preparations for Weibo's IPO.

In March 2015, Xu co-founded Seven Seas Venture Partners alongside Jeff Xiong, the former CTO of Tencent. Based in Menlo Park, California, Seven Seas is a cross-border venture capital fund that focuses on investing in and connecting U.S. and Chinese technology innovation. The firm has invested in 28+ companies across both countries, producing three unicorns and multiple successful exits. Xu brings deep operational expertise from running global-scale technology companies to help portfolio entrepreneurs accelerate growth.
