Background

Jacky Finkelstein joined Advent International in 2011 and is a Director based in Mexico City. Advent says he was one of the first employees of its Bogotá office, where he covered the Andean region, and that he moved to Mexico City in 2021 to support Advent’s investment and portfolio management work in Mexico. The firm says he has advised on eleven investments over his career, ten of them at Advent.

Before Advent, Finkelstein worked at Corficolombiana, part of Grupo Aval and described by Advent as Colombia’s largest merchant bank. He also worked at Deloitte, the Colombian Central Bank’s financial markets group, and Desarrollo Empresarial, a boutique investment bank focused on mid-sized companies.

Finkelstein received a BCom in Finance and Economics from McGill University in Montreal and an MSc in Management from the London School of Economics and Political Science. His current Advent profile lists Spanish as a language.

His current board roles listed by Advent are Mifel, InverCap Holdings, Neoris, and Prisma Medios de Pagos S.A. His select investments listed by Advent are Caldic, Enjoy S.A., Grupo Biotoscana, Laboratorio LKM, and Neoris.

Investment Thesis & Focus

  • Advent’s firmwide strategy is private equity rather than seed-stage angel investing. The firm says it seeks opportunities across five core sectors and looks for companies where it can “raise the bar, drive change built to last, and achieve sustained growth.”
  • Advent’s Mexico page says the Mexico team works with large corporations, family-owned businesses, and entrepreneurs, and supports transactions ranging from complex growth equity deals to public-to-private deals and carve-outs.
  • The Latin America platform focuses on Brazil, Colombia, Mexico, and other select regional markets. Advent’s Latin American Private Equity Fund VII targets companies with enterprise values of $50 million-$1 billion and Advent equity investments of $5 million-$30 million.
  • Advent emphasizes hands-on value creation: due diligence, close partnership with management teams, operational resources, portfolio support, and value creation plans.
  • Finkelstein’s listed Advent sectors are business & financial services, consumer, and industrial. His portfolio and board roles show emphasis on financial services/payments, technology-enabled services, specialty chemicals, and healthcare/pharmaceuticals in Latin America.
