Background
Jaime Ferré is a Barcelona-based serial entrepreneur and business angel who describes his work simply as "founding companies, helping founders." His operating expertise sits in what he calls the "TIME" space — Telecom, Internet, Media & Entertainment — with a particular emphasis on mobile and web products. Alongside his own founding ventures, he has built out a personal angel portfolio of roughly 18 companies and co-invested with a large network of Spanish angels and micro-funds.
His best-known venture is Geenapp, a Barcelona mobile- and web-app promotion platform (an app-discovery and performance-marketing marketplace connecting advertisers/app developers with publishers) that he co-founded in 2013 with Javier Casares and Gina Tost. Ferré served as Co-Founder and Executive Chairman, with Gina Tost as CEO. Geenapp raised angel and seed capital — including from Telefónica's Wayra accelerator and Intelectium (reported cumulative funding of roughly $1M+) — before winding down operations around 2018 (it is now listed as "deadpooled" by startup databases).
Beyond Geenapp, Ferré has held roles connected to the Spanish startup ecosystem, including as a shareholder/advisor at BoatBureau and Boardfy, a digital consultant at Keep It Simple Lab, and associations referenced with Akamon Entertainment, Encomenda (VC), and Kisslab. He is an active member of Spain's angel community, frequently co-investing with figures such as Carlos Blanco, David Tomàs, and Marc Vidal.
Investment Thesis & Focus
- Stage: Seed and early/startup rounds — the point where a small check plus hands-on operational help can move a company.
- Check size: €5,000–€100,000 per deal, deployed via equity, convertible notes, "tech for equity," and co-investment alongside other angels.
- Sectors: Marketplaces, online travel, games, mobile, B2B, collaborative economy, and e-commerce — reflecting his own operator background in mobile and internet media.
- Value-add lens: Positions himself as a founder-helper and operator ("helping founders"), suggesting he backs teams where his mobile/marketing/operations experience is relevant.
- Geography: Nominally worldwide, but the portfolio is heavily concentrated in Spain (especially Barcelona) and nearby markets.
