James Tee

James Tee is Vice President, Investments at Xeraya Capital, a Kuala Lumpur–based venture capital and private equity firm specializing in global life-sciences investments across medical technology, pharmaceutical biotechnology, biorenewables, and agritech. He joined Xeraya in May 2017. His career spans private equity and venture capital roles across South East Asia, North America, Europe, and Oceania.

He began his career in New Zealand as an analytics specialist at Westpac and subsequently worked in the Bank of New Zealand's CFO office, before moving into private equity and direct investing. Prior to Xeraya, James was with CIMB Group, where he led the Investments Management Team overseeing CIMB's private equity and direct-investment portfolio — work that included M&A execution, deal origination, debt and conflict resolution, fund management, and fundraising. According to his profile, he was also appointed Chief Investment Officer of the CIMB-Mapletree Real Estate Fund and served as an advisor to CIMB-Principal Asset Management (Thailand).

At Xeraya, James has focused on originating and evaluating opportunities in the life-science sector with an emphasis on the US and EU markets. He executed investments in drug-discovery companies including Congenica (UK) and OncoMyx Therapeutics (US), and built domain expertise in multi-omics and health-tech data applications. He has also been responsible for managing a NASDAQ-listed orthopaedic portfolio company centered on 3D custom-implant technology.
