Background
Jamie Cairnduff is Head of Portfolio at Whiterock Finance, the Belfast-based fund manager (legally Whiterock Capital Partners LLP) founded in 2012. She graduated from Queen's University Belfast with a First-Class Honours degree in Accounting and qualified as a Chartered Accountant with Chartered Accountants Ireland in 2016.
Before joining Whiterock in 2019, she spent seven years (c. 2012–2019) in the Advisory team at BDO Northern Ireland, providing restructuring and advisory services to individuals and SMEs across a wide range of sectors. That work gave her hands-on experience in business growth planning, independent business reviews, viability studies, debt restructuring and refinancing, insolvency and asset tracing.
In her current role she manages a diverse portfolio of SMEs operating across multiple sectors. Whiterock describes her remit as building relationships with key individuals in each business, developing an in-depth understanding of their financial performance and strategic plans, and sourcing and executing follow-on investments. This makes her a post-investment portfolio and relationship lead as much as a deal-doer — the person a founder deals with after Whiterock has backed them.
Whiterock itself has grown into one of Northern Ireland's most significant local funders, managing in excess of £150m–£225m across several debt and equity funds, having deployed over £120m to roughly 150 SMEs and leveraged in excess of £100m of further co-investment. Its backers include Invest NI, the British Business Bank and NILGOSC.
Investment Thesis & Focus
- Whiterock's tagline is "We Invest In The Brave" — backing ambitious owner-managers and scaling SMEs.
- Equity (Growth Capital Fund): £1m–£5m for minority stakes in growth and scaling companies, with capacity for follow-on funding; positioned as the largest ever locally-managed equity fund for Northern Ireland companies (£75m; ~£89m in some reporting).
- Debt funds: term loans of £25k–£2m for SMEs, including the Investment Fund for Northern Ireland.
- What earns a "yes": demonstrable sales growth and a clear route to market, a capable management team, and a credible expansion/scale plan — often blending equity, debt and hands-on consultancy in a single package.
- Priority sectors: Digital/ICT & Creative, Fintech & Financial Services, Life & Health Sciences, Agri-Tech, and Advanced Manufacturing & Engineering, though the firm invests across sectors.
Notable Investments
- Drinksology Kirker Greer (DKG Group) — Belfast spirits, drinks-creative and hospitality-design group; the first investment from the £75m Growth Capital Fund, a ~£6.5m / €7.7m package of equity, debt and consultancy (announced late 2024) to fund global growth across its Drinksology Creative, Kirker Greer Spirits and Spiritly.com units.
- Neurovalens — Belfast neurotech company developing non-invasive neurostimulation medical devices; Whiterock provided both debt and equity, supporting the company through long R&D and its transition to commercial stage (further activity noted in 2025).
- Broader Whiterock portfolio spans ~150 Northern Irish SMEs funded over the firm's first decade (individual holdings not all public).
