Background

Jamie Kerester is an investment professional whose career has centered on private equity. She grew up in San Francisco, attended San Francisco University High School, and graduated from Pomona College in 2017 with a degree in Economics. At Pomona-Pitzer she was a four-year member of the women's soccer team (a 5'8" outside back) and earned SCIAC All-Academic honors in 2014 and 2015.

After college she joined Genstar Capital, the San Francisco–based middle-market private equity firm (founded 1988, ~$49B AUM as of 2023), as an Associate on the investment team. In that role, associates support the firm's sector-driven buyout strategy across financial services, software, industrials, and healthcare — conducting market research, financial modeling, and due diligence. She is a FINRA-registered individual (BrokerCheck record under "Jamie Lynn Kerester"), consistent with a securities-industry/investment role.

Kerester subsequently earned an MBA from Harvard Business School and worked in private equity at GIC (Singapore's sovereign wealth fund). By 2025 she describes herself as an investment professional with roughly seven years of private equity and investment-banking experience who is now pursuing entrepreneurship-through-acquisition — running a search fund to acquire and operate a small/medium business in the lower middle market.

Note: The known stub lists her as an "Angel Investor" making "Seed Round" investments. Research does not support this — the gencap.com email and 415-834-2350 phone belong to Genstar Capital, a middle-market buyout PE firm, and Kerester's documented work is in private equity and SMB acquisition, not seed-stage angel investing.

Investment Thesis & Focus

  • Professionally trained in middle-market control buyouts at Genstar, whose stated approach is "sector-driven investing" pairing financial and operational experts to back management teams in financial services, software, industrials, and healthcare.
  • Genstar targets established, cash-generative middle-market North American companies — a buyout profile, not early-stage venture bets.
  • In her own current search-fund positioning, she is "exploring SMB opportunities and connecting with investors and operators in the lower middle market," across a deliberately broad set of sectors: consumer goods, business services, retail, distribution, industrials, technology, manufacturing, media, real estate, and healthcare/life sciences.
  • Emphasis on operating and acquiring a durable small business (entrepreneurship-through-acquisition) rather than writing minority venture checks.

Notable Investments

  • No individually attributed deals for Kerester are publicly documented — as an associate she supported the firm's deal teams rather than leading named investments, and her search fund had not announced an acquisition as of mid-2026.
  • At the firm (Genstar) level, representative activity includes its buyout portfolio across financial services, software, industrials, and healthcare; one historically documented exit is ECM Industries, which Genstar sold to Sentinel Capital Partners in December 2019. (Firm-level, not personally attributed.)
