Background
Jason Korman is an Australian private-equity and investment-management professional with more than a decade of experience across Australia, Singapore and the United States. He holds a Bachelor of Commerce (Honours) in Finance from the University of Melbourne (2005–2008). He began his career in the investment banking division of Credit Suisse in Melbourne, working on M&A and capital-markets transactions for clients in the oil & gas and metals & mining sectors.
He then moved into private equity at CHAMP Private Equity in Sydney. In 2015 he joined Argand Partners, a New York–based, industrials-focused private equity firm, where he rose to Principal (LinkedIn/aggregator records also list a Vice President title there) and was involved in investments, exits and financings across US, Australian, European and South-East Asian markets.
Korman returned to Australia to join BGH Capital — the Melbourne large-cap buyout firm founded by Ben Gray, Robin Bishop and Simon Harle — as a Vice President, from roughly 2018 to 2020. The stub contact details (bghcapital.com email and the +61 3 9133 8800 Collins Street, Melbourne switchboard) date from this period.
Since 2020 he has been a Partner at Viburnum Funds, a Perth/Melbourne investment manager that runs a Private Equity fund and a Strategic Equities fund. In that role he takes board seats tied to Viburnum's holdings: he was appointed a Non-Executive Director of Pivotal Systems Corporation (ASX/Nasdaq gas-flow control company) around February 2022, and a Non-Independent Non-Executive Director of GTN Ltd (Global Traffic Network, an ASX-listed traffic/media broadcaster) in 2024.
Investment Thesis & Focus
- Institutional private equity and concentrated public/strategic equity, not early-stage angel or seed cheques — despite the "Angel Investors / Seed Round" tag on the source stub.
- Sector experience spans technology, education, healthcare, manufacturing, chemicals, consumer products and general industrials — a generalist industrials-and-services PE background.
- At Viburnum's Strategic Equities fund, the approach is taking meaningful, often board-level positions in listed companies and driving value through governance and operational engagement.
- Comfortable with cross-border, complex deals — his track record covers US, Australian, European and South-East Asian markets, including buyouts, exits and financings.
Notable Investments
- GTN Ltd (Global Traffic Network) — ASX-listed traffic and news broadcast media company; Korman serves as a Non-Independent Non-Executive Director (2024), reflecting a Viburnum position.
- Pivotal Systems Corporation — gas-flow monitoring/control technology company (semiconductor supply chain); Korman appointed Non-Executive Director c. February 2022.
- BGH Capital portfolio (2018–2020) — participated as a VP in the firm's Australian/NZ large-cap buyout activity across its debut fund (specific attributed deals not publicly itemised).
- Argand Partners portfolio — industrials-focused US buyouts; involved in investments and exits during 2015–2018 (specific attributed deals not publicly itemised).
