Javier Rodriguez is Head of Technology Investments at M Ventures, the strategic corporate venture capital fund of Merck KGaA, Darmstadt, Germany. He stepped into this role in 2025 to lead the Electronics and Frontier Tech & Sustainability teams, having previously served as the fund's Chief Financial Officer since its founding in 2016. Across that decade he played an active role in structuring essentially every M Ventures investment, spanning both the technology and biotech sides of the portfolio. He has been credited with helping grow the vehicle from an initial €150M healthcare-only allocation into a diversified ~€600M fund, and with expanding the portfolio from roughly 25 companies to more than 100.
Rodriguez joined Merck KGaA in 2015, working in Corporate Controlling, where he was responsible for monitoring Merck's company-wide post-M&A integration and transformation programs — including the integration of AZ Electronics. Before joining Merck, he held a series of roles of increasing responsibility across Europe, the USA, and Asia in the specialty chemicals sector at ICI Plc and Givaudan.
He holds a Master's in Corporate Finance and Controlling from Maastricht University and a Bachelor's in Economics from Davidson College in the United States. His combination of a finance/controlling background and operating experience in specialty chemicals underpins his deal-structuring focus within a science-led corporate investor.
