Background
Jean-Marc Peter is a career real estate and finance executive, not a technology angel investor. He is a graduate of the École des Ponts et Chaussées and holds an MBA from INSEAD. He began his career in investment banking at BNP Paribas Australia, then at Eurofin (formerly CCF), before becoming head of the CNIT business complex at La Défense within the Vivendi group.
He joined Sofidy in 2003, where he helped structure and deploy the firm's investment strategy centered on the intrinsic quality of locations. After serving as Deputy General Director, he was promoted to Directeur Général (CEO) of Sofidy in 2013, working alongside then-chairman Christian Flamarion. Under his leadership Sofidy grew into one of France's leading independent managers of real estate funds — SCPIs, OPCIs, SIICs, dedicated funds, and real estate UCITS — and was acquired by Tikehau Capital, whose real estate arm (Tikehau Investment Management) manages roughly €14.3 billion in assets.
His tenure as Sofidy CEO concluded on 30 April 2026, tied to the merger of Sofidy into Tikehau Investment Management. He was appointed CEO of Selectirente Gestion effective 1 May 2026, and became its Chairman on 28 May 2026 (the date of the annual general meeting), succeeding Jérôme Descamps. Selectirente is a listed real estate investment company (SIIC) specialized in urban retail property.
Investment Thesis & Focus
- Invests in income-producing commercial real estate on behalf of retail and institutional savers via collective vehicles (SCPIs and related funds), not in early-stage companies.
- Location quality is the core underwriting principle — the strategy he helped build at Sofidy is explicitly focused on the intrinsic quality and resilience of the asset's location.
- Contrarian conviction on retail: he argues city-center and neighborhood commerce remain "solid assets" and cautions investors against excessive pessimism about physical retail.
- Diversification discipline: advocates high-end Paris residential property as a diversification solution and stresses staying anchored to fundamentals through market cycles — "crises are also opportunities."
- Independence & entrepreneurial culture are recurring themes in his public commentary on how Sofidy operates and selects assets.
Notable Investments
- Immorente — Sofidy's flagship SCPI; ~994 properties and ~€4.39 billion capitalization across ~50,000+ unitholders (as of 31 March 2026), diversified across retail, offices and other commercial assets.
- Efimmo 1 — one of Sofidy's two historic SCPIs, office-weighted; subject to a 2023-era unit-price adjustment cycle he managed through.
- Sofipierre — Sofidy SCPI, also part of the same price-adjustment communications.
- Sofidy Europe Invest — SCPI extending the strategy across the Eurozone.
- Sofidynamic — more recent Sofidy SCPI vehicle.
- Selectirente — listed urban-retail SIIC he now chairs via Selectirente Gestion.
