Background
Jeff Sheedy joined ARTIS Ventures in 2012 and serves as a Partner, described in the firm's materials as Director of International Marketing. Before venture capital, he worked at J.P. Morgan in Chicago, managing relationships with a diversified base of high-net-worth individuals and family offices.
Prior to and around his finance career, Sheedy spent roughly 15 years living and working overseas as CEO of a holding company with diversified operations and advisory work spanning manufacturing, oil services, sovereigns, agriculture, defense procurement, and consumer products across South America, the Middle East, and the United States. This international, operator-heavy background underpins his role connecting ARTIS with global investors and partners.
Sheedy is a graduate of the United States Naval Academy and served as an officer in the U.S. Navy's nuclear submarine program aboard both missile (SSBN) and attack (SSN) submarines. He subsequently earned an MBA in Finance and International Economics from the University of Chicago's Booth School of Business.
At ARTIS, he sits alongside a team led by Managing Partner Stuart Peterson and including senior partners Austin Walne and Ruchita Sinha. ARTIS, founded in 2001, is best known for early-stage bets at the intersection of technology and biology, and for a portfolio that includes several landmark outcomes.
Investment Thesis & Focus
- ARTIS backs "founders who are innovating in critical technologies that enhance human health and resilience," prioritizing scalable systems for health, infrastructure, and security.
- Core thesis centers on TechBio — the convergence of technology and biology — spanning AI/ML, data and software, therapeutics, diagnostics, and life sciences.
- Invests across seed through growth, typically writing checks in the ~$2M–$15M range with reserves for follow-on rounds.
- Emphasizes an "engineering-first" approach to data-driven life sciences, favoring frontier technologies (AI, gene editing, synthetic biology, advanced diagnostics) aimed at curing disease and strengthening global resilience.
- Sheedy's individual value-add skews toward international marketing, LP/investor relations, and global business development, drawing on his operator and cross-border experience.
