Background
Jeffrey J. Feil (born 1947) is a New York real estate developer and the President and CEO of The Feil Organization, one of the city's oldest family-owned real estate firms, founded by his father Louis Feil. Raised in Rockville Centre, New York, Feil earned a B.S. from the University of Cincinnati and a J.D. from Brooklyn Law School. He joined the family business in 1978 and assumed leadership after his father's retirement in 1988, later inheriting control of an estate valued at roughly $250 million in 1999.
Under Feil's leadership, The Feil Organization owns, develops, and manages a portfolio reported at over $7 billion as of 2013, encompassing more than 26 million square feet of office, retail, residential, industrial, and undeveloped property spread across roughly nine to ten states. Marquee Manhattan holdings have included the Fred F. French Building and the General Electric Building. The firm positions itself as a long-term, relationship-driven owner — Feil has said, "The deals we make aren't just numbers on a balance sheet; they're real relationships with people I know and respect."
Beyond the core firm, Feil co-founded RCG Longview, a real estate financing company, in 2002, and has participated in several high-profile partnership acquisitions alongside investors such as Joseph Moinian, Joseph Chetrit, and Lloyd Goldman. He is also an active philanthropist and trustee, serving on the boards of Weill Cornell Medical College, Yeshiva University, and Brooklyn Law School, and on the Board of Governors of the Real Estate Board of New York. He is president of the Feil Family Foundation, whose gifts include $28 million in 2013 to establish the Feil Family Brain and Mind Research Institute at Weill Cornell.
Investment Thesis & Focus
- Invests as a principal/owner-operator in real estate, not as a startup or seed venture investor — the stub's "Seed Round" stage does not apply to this person.
- Focuses on income-producing commercial assets (Class A office, retail, shopping centers) and selective ground-up or value-add development.
- Favors large, often partnership-structured acquisitions of trophy and institutional assets, frequently co-investing with other major NYC real estate families.
- Emphasizes long-term holds and relationships over quick flips — "you can do well and do good at the same time."
- Geographically anchored in New York City but actively acquires and develops across multiple U.S. states.
