Background
Jeff Kahler is a Colorado-based CPA and long-time finance executive who has spent roughly 30 years as a CFO across operating businesses. Early in his career, about three decades ago, he worked briefly for USAID in West Africa (Côte d'Ivoire) — an experience that continues to shape his interest in African ventures. He holds degrees from the University of Colorado and the University of Northern Colorado, and resides in Castle Rock, Colorado.
Today Kahler is the founder/owner of Genesis One Capital LLC and manages investments on behalf of a wealthy family. He also serves as CFO and Treasurer of the Find Us Faithful Foundation, a Colorado grant-making foundation that has been a major donor to international development work. The "Treasurer" role in the known stub data corresponds to this foundation position.
Kahler is active in the nonprofit and faith-driven investing community. He first joined the board of Plant With Purpose (an environmental/anti-poverty nonprofit) in 2006, served multiple terms, and rejoined the board in 2021, where he sits on the Audit and Internal Affairs committees. Through the Find Us Faithful Foundation, he has been a significant donor to that organization over multiple years. He is an avid biker and mountaineer and attends Castle Oaks Community Church.
Investment Thesis & Focus
- Invests through a faith-driven, "ethical capitalism" lens — participates in the Faith Driven Investor network and seeks deals that deliver both impact and returns.
- Puts profitability first: *"If a business isn't profitable, it's not sustainable."*
- Believes in a "triple or quadruple bottom line" — businesses should work for all stakeholders, including owners, not just impact metrics.
- Looks for strong financial fundamentals and visibility to future funding rounds or a path to profitability before committing.
- Views Africa as high-risk but compelling, and is willing to back capital-intensive models when the underlying economics are sound.
- Prizes values alignment: seeks co-investors motivated by both mission and financial return.
- On empowerment vs. handouts: *"People really need a fishing boat… A lot of people know how to fish."*
Notable Investments
- Ethical Apparel Africa — ethical garment-manufacturing company in West Africa; Kahler co-invested alongside development grants.
- Two additional African ventures — made through the Faith Driven Investor network within a few months of his 2021 podcast appearance (companies not publicly named).
