Jeffrey M Solberg

Jeff Solberg spent his entire 38-year professional career at GROWMARK, Inc., one of the largest farmer-owned agricultural cooperatives in North America, headquartered in Bloomington, Illinois. He joined the cooperative in 1976 and rose through its finance function over several decades, holding the positions of Treasurer, Vice President–Finance, and Senior Vice President–Finance before being elevated to the top job. By his own account, his career ambition had been to become GROWMARK's Chief Financial Officer: "My goal was to always become the Chief Financial Officer for GROWMARK. I never imagined that I'd be given the opportunity to be the CEO."

Solberg was named Chief Executive Officer in November 2010 and formally assumed the role on January 3, 2011, succeeding Bill Davisson. He led GROWMARK during a period of substantial growth; the cooperative was roughly a $6 billion organization at the time of his appointment and reported estimated sales of about $10.3 billion for fiscal year 2013, with estimated pretax income of roughly $220 million. GROWMARK provides agriculture-related products and services — including farm supply, agronomy, energy/fuels, and grain marketing — across approximately 23 states and Ontario, Canada, operating largely through the FS brand and its member cooperatives.

Solberg holds a 1974 bachelor's degree in business administration from Illinois Wesleyan University and earned an MBA from the University of Illinois in 1976, the same year he joined GROWMARK. He announced his retirement at the cooperative's annual meeting in Chicago on August 29, 2014, with a last day of September 15, 2014. He was succeeded as CEO by Jim Spradlin.
