Background

Jeffrey Moffett is a Managing Principal at Odyssey Investment Partners, a New York- and Los Angeles-based private equity firm that has raised more than $8 billion in capital since inception and invested in over 50 platform companies alongside roughly 200 add-on acquisitions. Moffett joined Odyssey in 2011 as a Senior Associate and rose through the firm over the following decade. In February 2020, coinciding with the close of Odyssey's $3.25 billion sixth investment fund, he was named a Managing Principal alongside Jason Cowett and Jonathan Place, joining the firm's senior leadership group that included Rob Aikman, Doug Hitchner, Dennis Moore, and Brian Zaumeyer.

Before Odyssey, Moffett was with Arsenal Capital Partners, where he worked on middle-market private equity transactions in the healthcare and specialty industrials sectors. He began his career as an Analyst in the Investment Banking Division of Citigroup, where he was a member of the Mergers & Acquisitions department. A native of Oklahoma, he graduated from the McIntire School of Commerce at the University of Virginia.

As a deal partner, Moffett has been actively involved with a broad slate of Odyssey portfolio companies, including Duravant, Industrial Electric Mfg. (IEM), Integrated Power Services (IPS), Magna Legal Services, One Call Care Management, Pro Mach, SIAA (Strategic Insurance Agency Alliance), and Tysers. He currently sits on the boards of IEM, Magna Legal Services, and SIAA, and has previously served on the boards of Duravant, IPS, and Tysers — reflecting a focus on industrial manufacturing, business/insurance services, and energy-adjacent platforms.

Investment Thesis & Focus

  • Control buyouts of established middle-market companies, not startups — Odyssey targets businesses with enterprise values of roughly $100M–$1B and EBITDA of $20M+.
  • "Buy, build, and integrate" strategy: acquire a platform company and drive growth through operational improvement and a program of add-on acquisitions to transform it into a larger, more diversified market leader.
  • Sector orientation around industrial manufacturing, business and insurance services, aerospace/defense, route-based and supply-chain businesses, and energy products/services — closely mirroring Moffett's own board portfolio (IEM, Magna Legal Services, SIAA).
  • Transaction types include leveraged buyouts, growth financings, and recapitalizations.
  • Odyssey describes itself as "partnering with skilled managers to transform middle-market companies into more efficient and diversified businesses with strong growth profiles" — meaning management partnership and operational transformation, not passive minority checks, are central to how they say yes.
