Background
Jeffrey Schneider is a Senior Partner and the Chief Operating Officer of Victory Park Capital, a Chicago-based global private credit and alternative-investment firm founded in 2007 by Richard Levy and Brendan Carroll. He joined VPC in 2010 and is responsible for the firm's operations and the execution of its strategic initiatives, overseeing compliance, finance, accounting, tax, and fund operations. He sits on VPC's Investment and Valuation Committees and has served on the board of directors of VPC portfolio company Tradable.
Before VPC, Schneider was controller and vice president of corporate finance at Omnium, Citadel's fund administrator (now Northern Trust Hedge Fund Services, LLC), where he built out corporate accounting, financial reporting, budgeting, and planning processes. Earlier in his career he was an auditor in the Investment Banking Group at J.P. Morgan, where he led a middle office supporting a large proprietary commercial mortgage-backed securities (CMBS) portfolio. He also held finance and accounting roles at the software startup Divine and began his career as an auditor at Arthur Andersen.
Schneider earned a BSc in accountancy from the University of Illinois and is a Certified Public Accountant in Illinois (inactive status). He was named a 2023 Notable Leader in Finance by Crain's Chicago Business. As of 2024, VPC managed roughly $6.0 billion in assets and became majority-owned by Janus Henderson through an acquisition announced in August 2024 (expected to close in Q4 2024).
Investment Thesis & Focus
- Schneider's role is operational and financial stewardship of an institutional private-credit platform rather than direct deal sourcing — he oversees fund operations, compliance, finance, and valuation as a member of VPC's Investment and Valuation Committees.
- VPC's strategy centers on asset-backed lending (since 2010): small-business and consumer finance, financial and hard assets, real estate credit, plus legal finance and custom solutions for insurance companies.
- The firm targets specialty-finance and fintech originators that need scalable debt/asset-backed capital rather than early-stage equity — historically providing sizable structured credit facilities to lending platforms.
- Founders seeking *seed equity* are unlikely to be a fit; the platform is oriented toward companies with originating assets or receivables that can support credit facilities.
Notable Investments
- Kabbage — VPC led lenders providing a $75M credit facility (2013) to the small-business online lender.
- Avant — Digital consumer lender financed by VPC for near-prime, subprime, and thin-file borrowers.
- OnDeck Capital — Small-business lending platform backed by VPC.
- Square — Cited among VPC's notable financing relationships in payments/fintech.
- SumUp — European payments company among VPC's notable investments.
- Addi — Latin American buy-now-pay-later / consumer lender in VPC's portfolio.
- Tradable — VPC portfolio company on whose board Schneider has served.
