Background

Jérôme Vandermarcq is a Partner in the Mid-Cap team at Abénex (Abénex Capital), a Paris-headquartered independent private-equity firm (independent since 2008) that has invested more than €1 billion across 59+ transactions and focuses on Health & Care, Safety & Regulation, and Services. He was born in the Limousin region into a family of entrepreneurs.

His career began in corporate finance: he worked as an M&A advisor at Sodica before moving into acquisition (LBO) financing at Natixis. In that financing role he repeatedly worked alongside the Abénex team on various leveraged buyout transactions, and he joined Abénex directly in 2008.

In 2015 he stepped into an operating role, becoming CFO of a high-end carpentry/joinery SME based near Lyon, where he led two external-growth (bolt-on acquisition) operations over roughly two years. He rejoined Abénex in 2017 specifically to open and run the firm's Lyon office, bringing operational and industry insight from his time as a CFO. Over his career at Abénex he has worked on investments including Hild, RG Safety, Prosol – Grand Frais, AC Environnement and Blanchon.

Investment Thesis & Focus

  • Invests through control buyouts and development capital — majority or control-minority stakes in established, cash-generative SMEs and mid-caps, working alongside existing management teams (a "positive," growth-and-transformation approach; Abénex is a certified B Corp).
  • Equity checks of roughly €10M–€100M, in companies with enterprise values around €30M–€300M and revenues of ~€10M–€500M.
  • Concentrates on Abénex's three sector themes: Health & Care, Safety & Regulation, and Services.
  • Brings a strong operational / CFO perspective (from his two years running an industrial SME) and a Lyon / Rhône-Alpes regional footprint, favoring companies where buy-and-build (external growth via bolt-on acquisitions) can accelerate the story — mirroring the two add-on deals he led as a CFO.

Notable Investments

  • Prosol – Grand Frais — French fresh-food retail specialist (fruit, vegetables and seafood categories under the Grand Frais banner); Abénex invested in March 2011 and exited in April 2017.
  • AC Environnement — French leader in property/building diagnostic surveys (asbestos, energy, electricity, gas, lead, termites, radon).
  • Blanchon — French maker of wood-care, finishing and protection products; IK Partners came in to invest alongside Abénex.
  • RG Safety — safety-equipment business within Abénex's Safety & Regulation theme.
  • Hild — Abénex portfolio company he has worked on (limited public detail).
