Background

Jessica Archibald is a General Partner and Investment Committee member at Top Tier Capital Partners, a San Francisco–headquartered venture capital specialist managing niche-focused funds-of-funds, secondaries, and co-investment strategies with roughly $7 billion in regulatory assets under management (as of December 31, 2024). She brings more than twenty years of industry experience and is credited with establishing the firm's data-analytics approach to portfolio construction — leveraging data to optimize risk-adjusted returns for TTCP's investors, and driving the build-out of the Investment Team's proprietary database ("The Mine").

Archibald joined TTCP's predecessor firm, Paul Capital, in 2005; the venture team spun out to form the independent Top Tier Capital Partners in 2011. Before Paul Capital, she was part of the investment team at Care Capital LLC, a venture capital firm focused on biotechnology, and earlier spent five years at Salomon Smith Barney. She currently leads much of the firm's capital-formation (fundraising) work.

She holds a B.A. in Mathematics and Economics from Connecticut College and an M.B.A. from New York University's Stern School of Business. She remains active with Connecticut College, serving on its Board of Trustees. A competitive rower and nine-time national rowing champion (and former NYAC member), she supports Team IMPACT (a nonprofit for children with chronic illnesses) and Connecticut College Rowing.

Investment Thesis & Focus

  • Invests as an institutional LP and co-investor, not as an angel — TTCP commits primary and secondary capital to top-tier venture managers and co-invests directly alongside them.
  • Data-driven portfolio construction is her signature: she built TTCP's analytics strategies and internal database to guide fund selection and manager access.
  • Three complementary strategies: primary fund-of-funds, a dedicated secondaries program (launched 2014; secondary-only fund launched 2023), and the Velocity direct co-investment/secondary strategy (since 2009).
  • Growth/mid-stage emphasis for direct exposure — buying into later financing rounds and providing liquidity to early employees, rather than pricing seed rounds.
  • Firm-stated approach: "a collaborative approach with every investment, operating as one team" — a relationship- and access-driven manager-selection model.

Notable Investments

  • Fund managers backed: Andreessen Horowitz (a16z), Mayfield, True Ventures, Accomplice, 5AM Ventures, Canaan, Foundation Capital, Creandum, Madrona, Polaris Partners, Versant, Abingworth — among 350+ funds worldwide.
  • Anaplan — enterprise planning software; growth-stage Velocity co-investment (later public, acquired by Thoma Bravo).
  • DraftKings — sports betting/DFS; Velocity growth-stage exposure (later public).
  • Smartsheet — work-management SaaS; Velocity growth-stage exposure (later public, taken private).
  • B Capital Group continuation fund — TTCP led a GP-led continuation-fund secondary on behalf of B Capital.
