Background
Jim Allred is a Principal at Tower Arch Capital, a Utah-based lower-middle-market private equity firm founded in 2013. He joined the firm as a Senior Associate in September 2019, was subsequently promoted to Vice President (a promotion announced by partner Ryan Stratton, who praised his "exceptional performance"), and now holds the title of Principal on the firm's investment team.
Before Tower Arch, Jim was a Vice President at CVF Capital Partners in Sacramento, California, where he invested both debt and equity securities in lower-middle-market companies across a range of industries — experience that maps directly onto Tower Arch's control-buyout strategy.
He earned Bachelor of Arts degrees in Finance, Economics, and International Business, graduating summa cum laude, from Utah State University. He is also a CFA® charterholder.
At Tower Arch, Jim works on sourcing, evaluating, executing, and managing investments in founder- and family-owned businesses. The firm now manages roughly $1.6 billion across three funds (most recently closing Tower Arch Partners III at $750 million in 2023), and Tower Arch differentiates itself by bringing operational, consulting, and Fortune 500–caliber executive expertise to small companies and by designing equity-incentive packages for the management teams it backs.
Investment Thesis & Focus
- Control buyouts of profitable lower-middle-market companies — not venture, seed, or angel stage. Targets businesses with $5M–$30M of EBITDA (roughly $20M–$300M revenue).
- Founder/family-owned businesses where the firm can be the first institutional capital partner and the owner/management team can roll meaningful equity into the deal.
- Sectors: business services, industrial services, infrastructure services, specialty manufacturing, technology & telecom, energy services, and consumer products & services.
- Deal types: control buyouts, recapitalizations, management-led buyouts, corporate divestitures, and add-on acquisitions "of any size" for existing platforms.
- What makes them say yes: a history of revenue growth, growing end-market demand, strong management teams to partner with, and the opportunity to add operational/strategic value rather than just capital.
- Check size: approximately $30M–$75M of equity per platform investment.
