Background

Jing Wu is a Partner at Qiming Venture Partners, one of China's leading early-stage venture firms (founded 2006, with offices in Shanghai, Beijing, Suzhou, Hong Kong and the U.S.). She joined Qiming as a partner in June 2014 — announced alongside Kuantai Yeh — to focus on the firm's Technology & Consumer (internet and consumer, or "Intersumer") investments. At the time she brought roughly 12 years of experience across venture capital and high-tech operating roles.

Before Qiming, Wu was a Vice President at CITIC Private Equity, where she led TMT and consumer investments, and earlier an Investment Director at Shanda Capital, leading Shanda's venture investments and M&A activity across internet, mobile and media. Earlier in her career she served as the China Representative of Bessemer Venture Partners and worked as a consultant at McKinsey's Shanghai office. She began her career on the technical side as a senior engineer at Oracle.

Wu holds a B.S. in computer science from Peking (Beijing) University, an M.S. in computer science from the University of Maryland, College Park, and an MBA from Harvard Business School — an engineering-plus-business background she applies to consumer-technology investing.

She has been recognized repeatedly by Forbes China, appearing on its Best Female Venture Capitalists lists (2018 and 2022) and its Women in Tech list (2020).

Investment Thesis & Focus

  • Invests primarily at seed through Series B in technology and consumer companies, spanning internet platforms, consumer brands/services, mobile apps, social and entertainment, insurtech, and secondhand/circular commerce.
  • Reported check sizes range from roughly $100K to $5M, with a typical sweet spot around $1.5M, consistent with Qiming's early-stage posture.
  • Backs cross-border / globally-oriented consumer and internet products built by China-based teams (e.g., podcast app Castbox, social/3D app BUD, mobile tools company Apus).
  • Drawn to founders and firm culture emphasizing partnership; on joining Qiming she cited the firm's "high caliber team and spirit of partnership" as what attracted her.
  • Leverages a hybrid computer-science + operating + consulting lens (Oracle, McKinsey) to evaluate both product/technical depth and consumer go-to-market.
