Joel Javer

Joel B. Javer is a co-founder and long-time partner of Sharkey, Howes & Javer, Inc. (SH&J), a Denver-based independent financial-planning and investment-management firm. The firm was established in Denver in 1990 when Eileen M. Sharkey, CFP® formed a partnership with Lawrence E. Howes, MBA, CFP® and Joel B. Javer, CLU, CFP®; Javer joined the firm in December 1990. Over a career spanning nearly 50 years, he has focused on making complex financial information and investment strategies understandable to clients, and has led the firm's investment strategy through numerous market cycles while mentoring younger advisors. He retired in October 2025 and is now described as a founding member of the successor brand, SHJ Wealth Advisors.

Javer earned a B.S. in Industrial Engineering from the University of Oklahoma (1972) before moving into financial services. He obtained the Chartered Life Underwriter (CLU) designation in 1983 and the CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ (CFP®) designation in 1985.
