Background
Johannes Raidl is a corporate-development and M&A specialist who has spent his career at the intersection of technology, dealmaking and startup investing. He studied at the Vienna University of Economics and Business (Wirtschaftsuniversität Wien / WU) from roughly 2004 to 2009, and holds a business degree with MBA-level training. He began his career in transaction advisory and investment management, including a role as Investment Manager at DZ Equity Partner GmbH in Frankfurt (deal structuring in the mid-cap segment) and at Austro Holding GmbH.
Before joining i5invest, Raidl worked at PwC (PricewaterhouseCoopers) as a Manager in Corporate Finance / M&A, structuring and executing company acquisitions and financings. During extended stays in Hong Kong, Shanghai and Southeast Asia he built a substantial Asia network that he still leverages for cross-border transactions. He joined i5invest in 2015 as Director of Corporate Development / M&A.
At i5invest he became Chief Operating Officer in January 2017 and, in January 2025, stepped up to Co-CEO and Managing Partner. In that capacity he leads corporate development and strategic business-development mandates for technology companies, managing cross-border M&A processes and helping founders reach premium exits. i5invest positions itself not as a traditional M&A bank but as a founder-centric advisory network with reach into 100,000+ decision-makers in strategy, M&A and corporate development, with offices spanning Vienna, Berlin, Madrid, Paris, Bogotá and Seattle.
Alongside his advisory work, Raidl has repeatedly acted as a business angel in technology startups and sits on several advisory boards, including nexxar, Molecular Acoustics GmbH and HRForecast, reflecting hands-on involvement in the companies he backs rather than passive check-writing.
Investment Thesis & Focus
- Invests personally as an angel in early-stage technology startups, complementing i5invest's growth-stage M&A franchise.
- Sector emphasis on enterprise and open-source software, AgTech, EdTech, HRTech, Industry 4.0, IoT and E-Mobility — hardware-adjacent, "booming high-tech" categories where his industry network adds value.
- Favors founder-led companies with cross-border / international scaling potential, matching i5invest's transatlantic and Asia-facing deal flow.
- Brings an M&A and exit lens to early investing: his value-add is corporate development, strategic partnerships and a path to acquisition, not just capital.
- Frequently takes an advisory-board seat, indicating a preference for engaged, relationship-driven involvement over purely financial angel positions.
