Background

Johnson Lin is publicly identified as a Partner at WI Harper Group, a cross-border venture capital firm founded in 1993 and known as one of the early venture firms active in Greater China. WI Harper says it has backed hundreds of companies, manages more than $1 billion in committed capital, and invests from offices in San Francisco, Taipei, and Beijing.

Lin was described in a September 2017 XW Laboratories financing announcement as “Healthcare Partner at WI Harper,” where he commented on WI Harper’s co-led $17.5 million Series B investment in XW Labs. In that role, he was associated with healthcare and biopharmaceutical investing, particularly companies addressing drug affordability, delivery, and clinical development.

In August 2020, during Hong Kong Science and Technology Parks’ Global Matching 2020 program, South China Morning Post identified Lin as a Partner at WI Harper Group. In that interview, he discussed how Covid-19 was changing venture interest toward e-commerce, telemedicine, biotech, sustainability, alternative plastics, gene editing, and respiratory medical technology.

WI Harper’s current public team page does not list Johnson Lin among current team members, so his current operating status at the firm could not be independently confirmed from the firm website. No reliable public education history was found in the sources reviewed.
