Background

Jon Giacomin is a career healthcare executive with roughly three decades in the sector. He began his professional life outside business, serving as a Nuclear Engineer and Surface Warfare Officer in the U.S. Navy, before moving into industry roles at Griffith Micro Science International and Sotera Health Company (Nasdaq: SHC), both tied to sterilization and healthcare services. He holds a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Notre Dame and an MBA in Finance from the University of Chicago's Booth School of Business.

The bulk of his career was spent at Cardinal Health (2001–2019), one of the largest healthcare distributors in the world. He rose through a series of operating roles — starting in the Pharmaceutical Repackaging business as VP/GM, then SVP of inventory management for Healthcare Supply Chain Services, and EVP of Pharmaceutical Operations overseeing warehouse operations across 22 distribution centers. In 2014 he was named CEO of Cardinal Health's Pharmaceutical Segment (a business generating over $130 billion in revenue and delivering roughly a quarter of all U.S. prescriptions), a role he held through 2018, after which he became CEO of the company's Medical Segment (over $15 billion in revenue).

After leaving Cardinal Health in mid-2019, Giacomin became CEO of U.S. Anesthesia Partners (USAP) from 2019 to 2021, a large privately held single-specialty anesthesia practice serving more than 2 million patients annually. In January 2023 he joined the American Medical Association as Chief Operating Officer, his current role. He was also appointed an Independent Director of Organogenesis Holdings Inc. (Nasdaq: ORGO), a regenerative-medicine company, effective May 7, 2021.

He has served in civic/board capacities as well, including the board of trustees of COSI (Center of Science and Industry) in Columbus, Ohio, and the National Association of Chain Drug Stores (NACDS) Foundation.

Investment Thesis & Focus

  • Caveat on the "angel investor" label: No public record was found of Jon Giacomin operating as an angel investor, running a fund, or publicly stating an investment thesis, check size, or target-company profile. The "Angel Investors / Chairman / Seed Round" descriptors in the source stub could not be corroborated and may be a mis-classification in an investor CRM.
  • Where he does add value is as a healthcare operating executive and independent board director — his expertise centers on pharmaceutical and medical-supply distribution, supply-chain and inventory operations at scale, physician-services businesses (anesthesia), and regenerative medicine.
  • His board and advisory activity (Organogenesis, USAP, COSI, NACDS Foundation) suggests any private involvement would most plausibly be in U.S. healthcare — distribution, medical devices/regenerative medicine, and physician practice management — rather than broad, sector-agnostic angel investing.

Notable Investments

  • No verifiable angel/seed investments or personal portfolio companies could be found in public sources.
  • His closest analog to "portfolio" exposure is board/executive affiliation rather than direct investing:
  • Organogenesis Holdings Inc. (Nasdaq: ORGO) — regenerative-medicine company; independent director since May 2021.
  • U.S. Anesthesia Partners — physician-services (anesthesia) company; CEO 2019–2021.
  • Cardinal Health (NYSE: CAH) — pharmaceutical/medical distribution; segment CEO through 2019.
