Background

Jon Wright is a Partner and co-founder of JamJar Investments, the early-stage European consumer VC firm set up and run by the founders of innocent drinks. JamJar says its team backs early-stage consumer brands across the UK and Europe, with stated criteria around European location, £0.5m–£5m rounds, and £250m+ exit potential.

Before JamJar, Wright co-founded innocent drinks in May 1999 with Richard Reed and Adam Balon. At innocent he served as co-CEO and COO, initially focusing on supply chain, process, systems, and operations. When innocent expanded internationally in 2008, he became UK MD and COO of the overall group.

Innocent grew from a market stall into Europe’s leading juice brand. The founders sold their controlling stake to Coca-Cola in 2013; JamJar’s own team page says innocent was sold for $700m+ and that the founders launched JamJar two days after the exit with Katie Marrache to back the next generation of entrepreneurs.

Wright started his career at Bain & Company, where he worked in London and San Francisco. Public profiles also identify him as an engineering graduate of St John’s College, Cambridge, and he has served as a trustee of the innocent foundation.

Investment Thesis & Focus

  • JamJar’s stated thesis: “We love, help & invest in early-stage consumer brands.”
  • The firm looks for three things: a complementary team that can ruthlessly prioritise; a product consumers love with strong early metrics; and the potential to reach a £250m+ exit valuation.
  • JamJar initially invests at Seed or Series A, usually in sub-£5m rounds, with initial investments typically ranging from £500k to £3m.
  • Wright’s own investing lens is strongly team-led. In a Jazz Shapers interview, he said that when JamJar compares companies that are flying versus struggling, “the distinguishing factor is the team.”
  • Wright brings a specific operating angle: product, manufacturing, supply chain, process, and operational discipline from scaling innocent.
  • JamJar positions itself as entrepreneur-led rather than finance-first: British Business Bank notes describe the partners as “entrepreneurs first and investors second.”
