Background
Jonathan Coll (age 37 as of early 2026) is a Partner and Executive Committee member at IDI, a Paris-listed private equity group that has spent more than 45 years financing the development of European small- and mid-cap companies. An ESSEC Business School graduate, he began his career in 2010 at PwC Corporate Finance, working on M&A in the small- and mid-cap segment, before joining IDI in 2013.
At IDI he rose steadily through the investment team: he was promoted to Investment Director (Directeur de Participations) in May 2017 alongside Augustin Harrel-Coutès, and then to Partner (Associé) in March 2025 alongside colleague Arnaud Pierucci. In announcing his 2025 promotion, Managing Partner Julien Bentz noted that Coll had "invested in and actively participated in operations carried out by IDI" for 12 years — reflecting IDI's model of building senior partners from within and aligning them as co-investors and shareholders alongside portfolio managers.
Over more than 15 years in private equity and M&A, Coll has been involved in close to twenty IDI investments across financial services, industrials, software, business services and food production. IDI itself is unusual as a permanent-capital, publicly-traded investor, which lets it hold assets flexibly and act as a long-term partner rather than a fixed-life fund.
Investment Thesis & Focus
- Invests through majority or significant-minority stakes in LBO and growth-capital transactions, typically in profitable European SMEs.
- Targets companies with enterprise value between roughly €10m and €250m, often in transmission/succession or expansion situations.
- Sector preferences drawn from his own deal history: insurance/financial services, industrials, software, business services, and food.
- Emphasis on long-term, aligned partnership — IDI's permanent capital and co-investment culture mean partners put their own money alongside LPs and management.
- On IDI's exit discipline, Coll has said the sale of CFDP shows "IDI demonstrates its capacity to carry out disposals of its participations to leading strategic players."
Notable Investments
- CFDP Assurances — France's leading independent legal-protection insurer (~245 staff, ~1m clients); IDI (with Groupe Chevrillon and Fiblac) took control in 2016 and entered exclusive talks to sell to AG2R La Mondiale in July 2026.
- Albingia — specialty property & casualty insurer; IDI (with Chevrillon) acquired the French business in 2006 and Coll managed the stake before IDI's exit (Eurazeo/Financière de Blacailloux entered in 2018).
- Actéon — dental equipment/medical group; IDI holding since exited (a disposal Coll worked on).
- Isla Délice — halal food products brand.
- Alkan — aeronautical/defense equipment manufacturer.
- Ateliers de France — heritage/luxury craftsmanship group.
- Culturespaces — cultural sites and immersive digital-art exhibitions operator.
- VOIP Telecom — B2B telecoms/connectivity provider.
- Forsk — radio-network planning software.
- Formalian, Intersoft, S4BT, Omnes, idinvest Partners, idiCo — additional software, business-services and financial-services holdings from his IDI track record.
